My bad, I thought he was talking about aged cubans, as I was. I did not know what clear cubans were.

Have you ever had the Fresh Rolled Perdomo when it's actually fresh ??

If fresh rolled cigars were that good, cigar manufacturers would not sit on their investment for 2 years.

As wheelie what a used car lot would do if they had to sit on inventory for 2 years.

FWIW - the accepted term is clear Havanas.

Anway, the cigar you spoke of in your first post is a clear Havana. I pointed this out in the second post of the thread, ZRX specifically and explicitly spoke of clears (clear Havanas).

Sure, they were Cuban tobacco, but clears were the cheapies of the day. I have yet to have one that rates any higher than an "interesting novelty" to me. They are $10 - $20 on the private market today mostly as curios. I've seen them go as high as $35-40 a cigar, but I wouldn't pay that without knowing they were decent cigars to begin with (most weren't) and stored properly all these years, as many were not, which is what Buckwheat pointed out.

Ultimately, a white owl cigar is still a white owl and always has been.

The 100-point aged cigars you mentioned: Dunhill Estupendo and the HU Dunhill SS #222, or basically any Cuban Dunhill for that matter, was the best of the best when they were made. Comparing them to a 5-cent mass produced machine made cheapie is two different worlds, you can't even make a legitimate comparison there.

I think it takes a couple years to make it a smokeable product. Fermentation and all, get rid of the ammonia, that kinda stuff. I heard Cargill is working on a hybrid cigar plant though, just pick em off the plant, throw em in the box.

It would seem that if one were to come in and hang out, shoot the bull and refrain from trying to prove that one knows more that everyone else one might actually learn something. In the end, when someone always has to be bigger, better, harder and faster than everyone else one ends up lonely in a castle all by ones self.

I bought a box of PSD4's once that upon arrival were less than 90 days of the box code.I'd never smoked a Habano that young before............ I just couldn't resist. They were magnificent.........for about 2 months.I picked one up one day and it tasted like crap......they'd hit their sick period.I waited about 2 years before even trying another but it just wasn't close to being as good as it was fresh.I continued every 6 months or so to pull another. That box was from 06.I have 3 or 4 left but they have never reached that magical state they were in when fresh and at this point I am sure they never will.I have a box of 09's that have turned way better.......they started to shine last year and are way better than the 06's now.

I have a box of Hoyo De Monterey LE Hoyo Des Dieux from 99 that were spectacular til 2012.I picked one up one day and it was little more than bland. They're all that way now. They've turned the corner and there is no bringing them back.

My point in all of this is there are no hard and fast rules.Different tobacco will smoke better fresh and some will lose it's spark over time.About the only thing I've found that is consistent is that all cigars go through a fermentation stage between being a freshie and about 18 months old.During this period even cigars with outstanding pedigrees taste like a well aged Puros Indios.
