While I don't see US Football going away I do see it perhaps peaking then dwindling a bit. It sort of reminds me of when I was smoking a cigarrette in the break room listening to folks talking about how they used to smoke at their desk and bitching about having to go to the break room. I clearly remember one of them explaining how it would never be forbidden in the break room.
10-20 years from now I can't help to think soccer may actually be bigger than football. it has come a long way and now we have a generaton whose parents have played. It wasn't that long ago that football was rinky dink. it's founding members are just dying off and some parents are not allowing thier kids to play. we will see.
Boxing sure has dwindled but then again ufc has grown.

Demographic shift going on in the US.
Hockey = expensive......... need a rink......equipment.....need to learn how to skate, etc., - hockey is on the way out.
Football = expensive.......heavy equipment costs, and liability issues, etc. - football may have peaked???
Baseball - not too expensive, but need a special field, and a minimum, number of players, etc. - not sure about baseball, still a "way out" for latin players, but American youth seem bored by it.....too slow of a game
Basletball - cheap, setting up hoops is pretty cheap.....and look.....basketball is everywhere
Soccer....cheap....one ball for 22 players.....and a field with a couple coffee cans on each side......it's the world's sport
Colin Cowheard (sp?) made a very interesting prediction, which I agree with 100%. As soccer continues to gain popularity in this country (which it will) the U.S. will have an increasingly powerful presence in FIFA (read $$$$$$) and there will ultimately be changes made to the sport to make it more "appealing" to the US market.
There are those that say soccer will never get traction in this country, that this is only a "World Cup" phenomena etc.
Well, in the 80s, 90s, and even 00s that may have been the case.............but with each passing decade, the popularity grows. And with the continued increase in the Hispanic population in this country, this trend will continue, until it reaches a tipping point.
I'll bet Pedro has a small soccer goal in Wheel's back yard. Prolly kicks the ball around on his break.
