How is it impossible to trace an "Executive Order"??? They're listed. Come on Anthony, the article clearly states as its position that obama is using Executive orders to take away your 5.56 ammo.

Now we find that there is no Executive Order. That this is a removal of an exemption for banning 5.56 made from specific material.

I'm cool if you are upset they're banning certain 5.56. I think you should be allowed to buy any ammo you want, and put it in any gun you want. But the article is clearly using specific words "Obama" "Executive order" to get you riled up, even if they aren't true.

I agree with you that at the end of the day it's an ATF matter. By simply removing the exemption the deed is done. I'm referring to the catalyst behind the action. Obviously, marching orders are coming from some place. A lowly bureaucrat isn't making the decision to remove the exemption.

The closing of the LAST lead smelting plant in the U.S. should have been a BIG indication.

I'd agree that it isn't a low level bureaucrat making these decisions, but I'd also argue that this likely isn't anything Obama had on his radar. Seriously... the exemption was due to certain factors. Those factors have changed since 86, so it doesn't apply the same way it did previously.

The trigger for losing this exemption (or so they are claiming) is the increased manufacture of multi-shot handguns capable of using the ammo. The law, as written, doesn't have any cost or accuracy stipulations, it simply focuses on whether or not the ammo can be fired from a multi-shot handgun. It couldn't in the past, now it can. That right there simply triggers the loss of the exemption.

What I find odd is the idea that anyone interested in firearms wouldn't see this coming? The ammo was exempted for a speecific reason, one which some groups decided to immediately manufacture equipment which would cause that ammo to no longer fit the exemption it was given. What did they think was going to happen?

Note - based on what I read in the ATF document, none of this applies to lead core 5.56. I could have read it wrong, but it looks like that was never "exempted" because it wasn't designated as armor piercing in the first place. Feel free to correct me.

Except you're wrong.

AR15 "pistols" have been available for many years.

Firearm enthusiasts see the whole pistol ammo ban as stupid because they actually understand ballistics and armor. But by all means continue

I suppose we could go back and forth here finding print that backs our beliefs....I'll continue to trust my gut on this

Sorry, but it hasn't affected the availability of lead for use in bullets one bit. The plant which closed was a primary smelter, one which smelts lead ore. Seems like that facility was a major polluter in the area. Reagun and Bush II had more to do with that plant closing than the Muslim in chief. From what I can gather most bullet manufacturers use recycled lead.

... so you're saying the exemption should have been revoked years ago? That's an interesting stance to take, but ok....

As for firearm enthusiasts with an understanding of ballistics and armor... what does that have to do with anything? Did you read the document I linked? The law doesn't care about ballistics properties or armor. It only cares about material of construction, caliber size, and if it is fired from a handgun. Don't be upset because the ATF finally closed an exemption that's been wrong for years (your assessment), just change the law so you don't need to have an exemption.

maybe we should make ammo out of something other than lead.
