Poll Question: Is Global Warming Real?

Science says it's so. The puppets of the Koch conspiracy say it's not. It's facts against opinion and I always go with the facts rather than with those that deny them.

Google search these terms: "2014 was not the hottest year on record" and "polar ice is not disappearing" and choose an article from a site that you find the least objectionable.

The problem with this (or any) political issue (left or right) is that you take what you're told at face value. A statement is made (and repeated 10,000 times) and you just accept it without question. And to be clear, I am not claiming that human activity isn't having a negative effect on the environment. Of course human activity has a negative effect on the environment. Only a fool would deny that. The severity of that effect, however, has not been established and no real methodology has been developed for measuring natural vs. manmade effects. The globe isn't warming and the ice caps' mass is HIGHER than 1979 levels, which is when NASA satellites began photgraphing them. You can find all this info if you only dig for it. You can also find where this global warming -- oops, I mean climate change -- oops, I mean climate disruption narrative is coming from. When there are oil companies calling for a carbon tax, I call bull****.

The hottest year on record has always been subject to denial and the same goes for the ice. The only thing I'm convinced absolutely of is that Z is a dumbazz.

Take a look at that.

And take a look at this Tweet from Gavin Schmidt of NASA. The probability that 2014 was the hottest year on record is less than 50%.

I have seen it and many other things. One thing that pushes my prospective is that who has the most to gain- those who believe in climate change or those that deny ? Your earlier commentary about repetiition seeming to be fact seems more of what the deniers try.

So who has the most to gain from pushing climate change and who has the most to gain from denying? The answer might not be quite as clear as you think but I will be interested to see your lists.

For denial, any company putting CO2 in the atmosphere as it will cost them to reduce the emissions. For pushing climate change I find it hard to find a selfish reason.

YOU want to toss about " someone smarter than me " look Vicky I know that those people exist....I don't try to sound like or PRETEND to be the smartest fella, so your thinking this might upset me.....You'd be wrong!!
But please tell me what makes me WEAK to expect PROOF that WE are causing long term harm to our planet?? When super smart F*ckers like you can PROVE IT BEYOND ANY DOUBT....maybe we can discuss it further. Dude if we let people like you run things.....we'd be eaten up with STD's that had no cure. And BTW I'll give you credit on being knowledgeable about " weak mindedness " and " Bull**** " Now why don't you use all that brainsmarts and go find your next homeless person to **** over....

Again... you are weak because you demand proof that we are causing the "long term harm to our planet" (that's a statement I would never make... that's all you. the planet will always be fine, we just may not be able to survive on it) before being willing to try to fix it. Hell, let's assume you're a standard semi-educated, over-breeding american who likes his white bread and oscar meyer sandwiches... why would you care what's causing the problem? Do you care what the cause of malaria is? Not really... you just want a cure. You want the problem solved by engineers and scientists so that you and your progeny can keep eating baloney sandwiches without fear that you'll die of malaria.

So why is climate change different? Why aren't you simply asking the scientists and engineers to solve the problem and make sure that the climate stays reasonably habitable for you and your progeny?

I find all the global warming debate amusing........The only known fact is that the earth is getting warmer. We still don't know if that's good or bad. Those who say warming is man-induced, don't really have enough info to know for sure.......and those that say people have nothing to do with it, don't have enough info to make such a definitive conclusion either. There seems to be hidden agendas on both sides of this argument. One side wants a red herring to spur greater pollution controls (more is better) and the other side is driven by a belief that more pollution controls are an unnecessary economic burden. A global disaster or lack of one is just a convenient vehicle for each agenda.

In the meantime, most of the world is screwing up their environment - killing the fisheries, eroding forest and farm land, creating unbreathable air and creating toxic landfills......pretty much indisputable facts.........isn't it there enough work for us all to fix things we can agree on that are bad for the environment?........and if in the process we reduce carbon or CO2, it can't hurt.

Problem is it is easier to get developed countries to want to do a better job than to get third world countries to do as good as we do. We debate whether or not man-induced global warming is causing people to die of record heat in India, but nobody really cares that many more die or suffer every year from living in a man-induced toxic environment.......ever been to Delhi?

tonygraz wrote:

The cost for companies to reduce their CO2 emissions will just be passed on to their product consumers.

When you find it hard to find a selfish reason for pushing climate change, you kinda just remove yourself from the entire conversation as being unqualified to participate.

Lemme give you an example:

Company A has a lot of CO2 emissions.
Company B makes money by helping companies lower their CO2 emissions.
Company C makes money by helping companies pass their costs increases on to their customers.
Someone like say....Le HockeyDad works at Company B or C.

Under this scenario, Company B & C as well as someone like say...Le HockeyDad have a vested interest in lobbying the government to legislate tougher CO2 emissions because it means more work and profit. Now it seems like Company A is getting screwed but they really are neutral in the scenario because they pass the increased costs on to their consumers (with Company C's services!) and can now proclaim how much greener they are in press releases and commercials. That's at least a half-win at no cost. Half-Win/Win/Win situation.

Now I guess somebody does have to lose......the customers of Company A. They can't just abandon Company A because we are doing the same thing with all of Company A's competitors as well. Although they pay more, they at least have the satisfaction of being more green (while having less green).
