We went out on a charter boat from Key West on the 26th. Winds were 15-20 knots, so it was a bit rough for a while and only 3 boats from that Marina had the cajones to go out and give it a go.

We spent a couple hours getting to deep water, and then a few hours trolling. Caught these 7 juveniles, all from 8-14 pounds, so nothing special, but I think the captain was askeered of going deeper where the big ones were. Unfortunately for us, our stay in KW was 3 days... so a limited chance of going out and the wife's birthday was the next day. Every day we were there was pretty much the same - not ideal for fishing. But we got it done.

Brad and I split the cost, but it was pricey, since we had the boat to ourselves. I will remember that experience for life. In fact, it was so damn cool I want to do it again soon!

Nice Schoolies ...

I worked as a mate on charter boats out of the upper & middle Keys about 20 years ago. We used to pitch the sale as 6 guys splitting the cost is a lot more affordable, but it made my work as a mate that much harder. Glad it was only you two.

We fished in all kinds of weather. Flat calm to 10-15 foot swells. Hard work. Cutting bait at 6am, washing the boat at 6pm, 6 days a week.

But, the reef & stream were really close & The Humps weren't too far away.

Glad you had fun.

We ate fresh Mahi sammiches for dinner that night. We fried them in butter with salt and pepper, then put them on toasted buns with lettuce, tomato, and red onion with a dash of mayonnaise. Sublime.

Fish always tastes better when served up the day they are caught.

Oops, I meant "ono" as in good, not as a correction.

A bit confusing when the word can be both an adjective as well as a proper noun. 🤦

That's why I call it Dolfin ... (Like they do in South Florida)

It's less confusing that way.
