A "PR Move" as you called it, would be an act intended to provide good publicity.

I'm not debating whether or not this could result in good PR.
I'm just telling you that I think you are wrong about their motivation.

Maybe he has a black heart towards the gays and this was entirely to promote his business. Maybe he hasn't slept a wink since doing it because his actions helped out those who aided the gays.
But maybe, just maybe, it was an act of compassion, enacted without regard for PR. Good, bad, or indifferent.

Quite unlike, I might add, a company that "gives away" something (say, a child safety seat) with an expectation of receiving favorable press.

We got zero press from the car seats nor did we plant any via releases.. It was a marketing ploy however with the employers etc. I'm not a big fan of the company so really don't intend to defend them.

Don't forget the impromptu water and clothes piece during the flood you keep conveniently ignoring. It wasn't a planned PR move but did fit the corporate culture we wanted to project as well as simply helping our neighbors and was driven by locals.

Meh if you don't think they as a corporation have thought about PR to that level in advance and have a general plan and act accordingly so be it. If you want to interpret my original comments as being PR and only PR drove it even though I continually have said differently then so be it. The beauty of a good PR and marketing plan is if done effectively it seems invisible and develops and maintains a culture you want to maintain. It doesn't have to be disingenuous. Y'all act like PR is bad, It isn't, and while you may be insinuating that it is, I am not. I guess I just come from a different place on it. I don't see it as negative. They are awesome at the PR game and I admire their marketing team.

I'm a product of my experiences. I know how I think about such things. I didn't see it as a negative thing. I actually saw it as a great PR move and said good on them.
