Is it considered a Mosque, or a city?
As a Catholic, my understanding of religious history is horrendous at best.

I as a parent had a problem with Christmas concerts our kids sang in No Longer were allowed to sing the same Classic Christmas songs we did growing up. I wonder if other countries wring themselves into pretzel shapes like we do trying tobe EVERYTHING to EVERYONE???

As for Mecca, it is a city in Saudi Arabia, and has many holy places, including mosques. There is a truly famous and holiest mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Al Aqsa mosque.
