Rick,
I got out my thesaurus and was trying to help you out with, "i can't think of the word that means drawing a conclusion not in keeping with the information and/or facts presented." all intended in jest, trying to lighten things up a little

Rick is absolutely right in his complaints about Social Security ... it is literally a Ponzi scheme that is doomed to eventual collapse and one that would be deemed by the government to be illegal if run by private enterprise ...

Recalling that the SS scam was originated during the reign of the 'great' FDR and continually ramped up by the Dems in Congress ever since, I was more than a little bit surprised, although nonetheless quite pleased to read last evening's statement of his views on the subject ...

ss is like fdr taking us off of the gold standard, it sounded like a good idea at the time.

Actually we came off the gold standard in 1971. FDR can take a lot of blame for the sad shape America is in right now, but the gold standard reversal isn't one of them. I've often wondered why Congress and Senate haven't reversed many of FDR's giveaway programs.

you are correct. so far the best response was "Author: DrMaddVibe Date: 08/28/2002 09:15 AM Reply
I wish he'd drop one on you. The world would be less bitter."
that was on the picture post with bush the bombardier.

the strange part, in addition to wanting to atomize me,is why he obsessivly thinks that i am bitter. i am really quite sweet.

Then you're obviously a schizophrenic. Anyone that endlessly goes on a daily rant about a political party and boasts that they're sweet is an oxymoron. Get help for yourself. You come across as a bitter old man with serious issues. Bush as Hitler, Bush with an atomic weapon, Bush,Bush,Bush. Makes me wonder if you get enough bush! You're obviously "triggered" by the mere picture. You believe that you have an entire audience devoted to your political tirades. Do yourself a favor and seek medical help. You'll find that you'll have more time to enjoy life then "warning" us about your perceived evils!

Doc ... re; your post yesterday in which you said "Actually we came off the gold standard in 1971. FDR can take a lot of blame for the sad shape America is in right now, but the gold standard reversal isn't one of them. I've often wondered why Congress and Senate haven't reversed many of FDR's giveaway programs" ...

actually this country DID go off the gold standard in early 1933, at the outset of FDRs first administration ... in 1971 what the the U.S. did was suspend the exchange of our gold for foreign-held dollars.

As for whether FDR can be fairly blamed or not, well, IMNSHO, he can be fairly blamed for many, many things that are wrong with the US today ... but as you say, in all fairness, nearly all of the countries in the world went off the gold standard during the early 30's in the belief that their exports could be stimulated by devaluating their currencies in terms of foreign exchange.

Congress has not reversed his giveaway programs for the very simple reason that too many people would be hissed off if they did so ... Hubert Humphrey said it best at the Democratic convention in 1948 in predicting a long run of success for Democratic office seekers when he said "who'll vote for Scrooge when they could vote for Santa Claus??" ... all the giveaway programs are now called "entitlements" and no one wants to give them up ... the degree to which the scope and invasiveness of government has exploded and the amount of our very real freedoms lost to 'big brother' absolutely dwarfs the so-called loss of personal liberty that the whining, mewling liberals are today attributing to the current administration's efforts to preserve our national security.

Steve, after much of Europe faltered with depressions they(meaning European countries)went off of the gold standard. Paper money backed with gold bullion. FDR issued an executive order that is referred to "coming off of the gold standard". Instead the power went to the FDIC. They continued with the process until all of Europe was unbacked by gold. They continued this flim-flam until 1971 when the US officially went off of the gold standard due to the inflationary practices the Federal Reserve put us into. The Fed really forced the hand of US government into this decision.
