Anthony, let's als remember that in the late 1960s through the early 1980's, many elected officials with beliefs similar to Byrd left the Democratic Party and found a home either with the Republicans (Jesse Helms, etc.) or created their own parties (George Wallace), as they no longer felt comfortable with the direction their party had taken.

I married a beautiful white women 37 years ago, prolly the best thing that has happened to me...and the knowledge that millions of my fellow citizens are repelled by the sight of my wife and me together, with our kids was, and is heart breaking...happened many times while we traveled through Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming on our way to Yellowstone, one of the most diverse and beautiful places in the world...

These are the people Trump defends and enables, encouraging more of them to flourish. And they are breeding...
