Doobie Brothers - a comp of favorites and hits from 1972 to 1978

Prefer the Tom Johnston years but they sure cranked out a bunch of hits with Michael McDonald.

Love the tune "Switchin' In The Kitchen". Cover of a Big Joe Turner tune.

If your feet aren't tappin' on this one.......you may be dead and just don't know it yet.

I've seen them here in Pittsburgh, four times. Excellent Horn Section (World Class!!!). They've had three different Lead Vocalists in those shows. My favorite is Sugar Ray Norcia (who is featured on "Switchin' in the Kitchen").

Hits, yes . . . but Michael completely changed the sound of the band, and not for the better, IMO.

Some Girls sits atop the pile for me as their perfect album next to Let It Bleed, but a return to (albeit when they wanted to!) their Blues roots is what has me the most piqued in this range.

My all time favorite song of theirs is off of Beggar's Banquet, "Stray Cat Blues". Still the haunting guitar and sax of "Waiting For A Friend" and "When The Whip Comes Down", "Shattered", "Send It To Me", "All The Way Down", "Had It With You", "Break The Spell", "Out Of Tears", and their opus "Saint of Me"...the bookend to "Sympathy For The Devil". You almost feel sorry for Satan. The drumbeat and the guitars have me hooked. All prove that they can always write and perform circles around other bands.

The Rolling Stones are in my Top 10 favorite bands of all time. For their ability to take the Blues and clean it up and make it danceable, laughable and respectable...why they even made that into a song too!

There's a reason why they're not going quietly into the good night!
