I believe his remasters hit the streets today.

Mahalo for the heads-up.

Twenty years ago I’d be jumping all over this and (...slowly...) replacing my “regular” versions with the remastered ones. However, since there has already been a round of remastered and expanded versions and I did replace some of my older copies, not sure if I’m gonna do another round of replacement. AND Spotify seems to keep upgrading their catalog, so the new remasters will (...hopefully...) eventually show up. Since I listen to music mostly in my car or iPad, probably won’t be getting anything, hard copy-wise.

This brings up a semi-interesting question as to which album I’ve replaced / upgraded over the years. I believe “Layla” is the “winner”:

Layla:
1. Original vinyl
2. Original 2 CD release
3. Single CD
4. Layla sessions
5. Mobile Fidelity
6. 20-bit remaster
7. SACD

“At Fillmore East” a close runner-up:
1. Original vinyl
2. Original 2-CD release
3. Single CD
4. The Fillmore Concerts
5. At Fillmore East Deluxe
6. The 1971 Fillmore East recordings

Anyone else with similar replacement / upgrade experiences?

Nothing quite like that.....

Edgar Winter Group They Only Come Out At Night
1. 45 single Frankenstein
2. 8 track album
3. vinyl album
4. cassette album
5. bits and bytes...mp3 probably; but could be any of a half dozen other different formats....I have used so many different formats ....maddening....many I can't even listen to any more

Chicago VIII & IX; Eagles Greatest Hits; Carole King Tapestry; Bob Marley Legend; Trick of the Tail; American Beauty....numerous others....all in more than a couple formats

8-track AND cassette? 🤔

But I get it. One for the car and then another one for when the 8-track format died and cassettes ruled the portable listening world.

I had cassette versions of both Layla and Fillmore East but they were strictly for the car.

When the LZ albums were initially released on CD in the 90s, I was lucky enough to know the WEA rep really well. She offered to buy CDs for me at her employee cost so went hog wild and ordered a slew of albums, including LZ 1 thru IV and Physical Graffiti. I could buy brand new CDs at $2.50 to $3.00 per, so bought A LOT of catalog stuff in one stroke. Later bought “How The West Was Won” through her. Eventually she lost her job when the music industry went through major changes in the early-mid 2000s.

Changes like cracking down on unauthorized use f discount?

I've mostly gone cassette to CD, some vinyl to CD largely to have more mobile music. However, I did have an 8 track adapter come with my first car that you just plugged into the cassette player. Never had an 8 track to try it out with though

THANK YOU!!!! Holy crap I love these guys! This is awesome!

I've been spending the past few weeks learning to play some Pink Floyd songs.... currently working on Wish You Were Here. I might have to break out the Gibson and Fender and get back to my southern blue's rock roots! I've got an old tube amp that goes to 11. No! Don't even look at it!

Hahahahaha...no. 😇

Although complicated, I’d say the late ‘90s / early ‘00s brought about major changes in buying and listening habits that led to a tumbling of the industry. Once the old stuff became available and purchased, there was no need to continue going into music stores on a regular basis. Whereas vinyl records could get worn out, scratched or warped and would have to be replaced, CDs, with a little bit of care, could last someone a really l-o-n-g time. And then the technology advancements such as mp3s, iPods and music sharing sites led to even less need for brick and mortar stores. The collapse of the Tower Records chain was inevitable and with it, so were jobs surrounding the old business model.

At one point, I dreamed of being a sales rep for CBS / Sony or WEA. Although I tried, thank goodness I never got either one!

I actually still have a 4-track player and some tapes that I got from my uncle. It is the predecessor of the 8-track.

Van Morrison and Joey DeFrancesco - You’re Driving Me Crazy

Jazz Van. Good album, excellent musicianship...but not one that I’ll be listening to too often.
