Gotta go with Sloop John B. I still think Pet Sounds is THE greatest album ever put together. Not my all time favorite but, when you take into account the song writing, musicianship, harmonies, engineering etc. etc. etc. Hard to beat.

SJB is a great song but is basically a cover of an old folk song. As much as I love Pet Sounds, SJB sounds clumsily out of place within the concept of the album. On the other hand, Surf’s Up is so complex that I get that people don’t get that song.

Ah yes, "Golden/Middle Era" Genesis, the best Genesis ever!

In chrono order:

1. 1967-1974 - Early Genesis w. Peter Gabriel - too weird
2. 1975-1983 - Golden/Middle Era - friggin' amazing, some of the best music ever made
3. 1984 onward - Post Pop-Sellout Era - short FM-friendly crappy pop tracks

By the way, after recently finding out about DASH Radio, I found out about Radio Paradise. Both are free and commercial-free with playlists hand-chosen by human experts, but unlike DASH that has 85+ channels, RP has just a handful of mixes (streams) that differ in mood. The mix on them all is outstanding though, huge playlists and you'll find artists you never heard of, by the dozens! Great stuff.

Also I dunno about other platforms, but their Roku app shows gorgeous photos continually, changing about every 7 seconds, whenever you're playing it, and usually the photos are chosen based on keywords in the song title or artist name. The photos alone are awesome, even with the volume turned down!

Both are excellent. No cost and no ads! How they make any money is beyond me, but who cares!

Totally agree.

There are very few songs I listen to from 1984 onward. It's pap from a band who's members KNOW better but are in a cashgrab down Idontgiveafuck Mountain all the way to the bottom.

Here's Phil's best attempt to sound like Peter Gabriel.

The early Genesis is what made me a fan..Once Peter had left the band just sputtered with lineup changes and a real power struggle for the heart of the band. They talk about doing a reunion but without Peter and Hackett I don't want to see nor hear it.

Really getting tired of double posts and dropping the site. I've ipconfig'd my network to death. Anyone else having this issue with the site? I might have to stop using Chrome.
