That is my issue. If we open up too quickly or without following the methodology put out by the admin which seems to be disregarded at the moment by the Prez who is encouraging folks to ignore his own recommendations then we risk losing any benefit we got by doing what we did. We will get the con of both without the pro of either. We never should have done what we did. It is wishy washy and driven by the political calendar.

That is very different than the should we have done it in the first place conversation. We did and here we are.

Folks trying to minimize the virus again to justify their political argument complicate things. I can respect the I know this thing is wicked but so is the impact of what we are doing to the economy. Its a butter or guns argument with a firm basis to have it. Starting with saying this thing isn't what folks are saying it is and it's just not that dangerous starts with a flawed foundation and builds from there.

My limited experience with how we're likely going to end up opening up is not positive.

I'm not sure if it's a lack of scientific literacy in this country, or a stubborn refusal to do what they are advised, or a nearly sociopathic disregard for one's neighbor's health... but I don't think our population actually will be able to open up in a controlled manner, following data driven decisions.

It's going to turn into a clusterfxck.

On the upside.... no one has decided to use the pool at the gym, and our best information is that chlorine kills this thing. So I'll just go swim.

the average American will not participate in the initial reopenings...reports are that some of the businesses that re-opened had less than 20% of the numbers of customers before the shutdown...

most people will take a wait and see approach, gauging the numbers to see if there's a spike after re-opening, and to see what precautions are being taken to prevent infections...

most businesses seem to be implementing safety measures for their workers and customers, and that's a good sign...

we can't act like "it's over...come on out...spend money...don't worry about getting sick or getting other people sick"

I am sure missing dim sum, tho

Your gym is still open, Vic? And you're going?

Are you trying to kill people??!! (joking)

Wish mine would open. I'd be there most days.

One of our media outlets recently conducted a survey about when people would return to their typical patterns regarding dining out, shopping at the mall, receiving personal care services such as haircuts, manicures, etc. I don't recall the number of people who responded, but about one third said as soon as the restrictions were lifted, about one third said more than three months later, and the remaining people were split among several options between immediately and three months later.

A lot of businesses here (restaurants at least) are choosing to wait before opening their seating. I don't think any of them want to be the ones responsible for the next wave (not that columbia had a first wave)....

But yeah, a number of people seem to be willing to voluntarily stay in.

We'll see how it works out

Delta, who is the "average American", and where did the 20% figure come from? Is that figure in Cali, or nationwide?

Where did you get the "most people will take a wait and see approach" information?

Yes. Why do you ask? (not really joking)

Our gyms opened a week ago. I haven't done any of the HIIT because I have a tendon or nerve that seems to have gotten inflamed across where some bone healed a couple years ago. But I've been enjoying the pool.

Certainly no way there could be a problem with a guy who works in a prison where there's an outbreak sharing a gym facility with people.

No way that could turn out bad....

On the upside... there'll be more dead people.

Then TW had very good reason to not want to argue the numbers.
You are purposefully (or accidentally, if you're dumb enough) using bad numbers.

victor809 wrote:

So there are bad numbers?

like 809 perhaps?

I repeat numbers from a government chart. And you think I must be dumb or deceitful.

Face it. You don't like the numbers because they contradict how you feel. So it becomes my fault.

I'm sure we'll hear your incessant whine trying to explain how that's not what you meant.

But no matter how you spin it, that's precisely what you just did.

Tail, based on that data MA has 12,617 confirmed Covid19 cases in the 50-59 demographic. Also based on that data MA has 170 confirmed COVID19 deaths in the 50-59 demographic. This is a death rate of approximately 1.4%. Neither number includes compromised people if I am reading it correctly.

Both numbers include compromised people. It doesn't play a role in the numbers. If you're human and in the age range you're counted.
