You speak the language of the slave and the government dependent class. Le HockeyDad didn’t get lucky. Le HockeyDad is educated, works hard, invests well, and is successful. Luck isn't part of the equation.

You have free will to get you some boot straps or some scratch-offs.

I wasn't privileged enough to have boots much less boot straps. We had bark from a tree and rubber bands*

Sometimes I read something from somewhere unrelated, learn something then apply it to something totally unrelated rather than just repeating something I’ve heard supported by a YouTube video then challenge someone to argue with the video.

I’m weird.

Funny though the origin is you.

Bought a print and shirt. Love the print. I stare at it while on video conferences. Ties old to new and intrigues me.

I’m simple.

Hey now, my post was short, after hours and I type 100 wpm (slowed down in my old age).

Anyway, that's awesome stuff.

Unfortunately I don't have a sword to throw on the pile. All I have is a glock :/

If it's matched in gold, I got a shotty too.

Not really. It has less to do with resting on laurels and more to do with what have you done for me lately. I think you missed the point.

You don’t need education to continuously learn and think for yourself.

You must first separate yourself from the pathetic educational system...

Only if you fear you are weak minded and that all/most learning is rote and you can easily be indoctrinated.

Higher education is really about learning critical thinking skills and how to think for yourself using certain processes and tools. It really isn't about being indoctrinated despite what some think. And the "some" include some in the academic fields (professors etc.) that I assume do have that somewhat on their agenda.

It all comes back to self control and personal responsibility rather than blame. I can think of a couple instances where my grade was effected because I had a different world view than the prof. But those were the exception not the rule. They tend to get described as the rule by those that haven't been exposed to higher learning in a long time if at all. And I too have not been there in a long time. Maybe it has changed drastically and it is more like Jonestown now. I somehow doubt it but I only have my experience and what I see from my kids.

Not directed at izon at all but...

The insistence that higher education is bad, experience is bad, experts are bad, etc. is laughable. It is a low brow way of discounting things and is really saying uneducated and inexperienced knows more. Think about that. It's a bait and switch to get folks to accept nonsense at times. The next step is accepting ideas and theories from somewhere presumably with less education and less experience on any given subject. And that makes sense somehow.
