When you go to the gas station, the ownership puts a temporary hold of anywhere from $100 to $175 on your card, even if you only put in $20, $30 or $50 in the tank.

The hold time varies from a few hours to a few days. I didn’t know that existed. Many others don’t either as people are seeing overdrafts fees and penalties charged when that hold fee is assessed.
