hmmmm...what is the sweet spot of stars in Yelp for best Mexican restaurants in the area?

years ago, I went to a Mexican place that was rated by Yelp as the best in the town (Escondido)...my friend, Charlie, (RIP) a Mexican, said don't bother with Yelp, just look for the Mexican restaurant that is crowded with Mexican diners...he said the first clue is a parking lot full of older American cars...then look for Mexicans leaving with bags in their hands...and a few waiting outside...

we went to that Yelp restaurant, half empty parking lot with more newer Japanese cars...mostly Gringo diners...place sucked...

I’ve always gone by the theory that if I’m the only whitey in the place, it’s good and authentic.

The theory on picking authentic Chinese restaurants came from some video that started off with the fact that Yelp reviewers are just awful people. They trash restaurants for poor service and disregard great food and this downgraded the overall rating.

It’s just disrespectful to prolong an old 500 thread.

By replacing your potato chips with grapefruit as a snack you can lose up to 90% of what little joy you still have left in your life.

3.5 stars is the sweet spot for Chinese restaurants. Any lower is bad food, and higher is gonna be decent food but great service. 3.5 or close to is gonna be great authentic food and mediocre service which is actually how service is done where they came from. We have a different mind set here for service that we come to expect and people give bad reviews for it. The food will get 5 stars and the service will get much less stars and why 3.5 evens out to be the sweet spot for authentic good Chinese food.

I am grateful that grapefruit is incompatible with my blood pressure med, so potato chips remain high on my list of snack foods...which prolly splains my elevated blood pressure...

Not exactly recent knowledge, but I was amazed at the number of drugs grapefruit can mess with

The theme song of M*A*S*H is entitled "Suicide is Painless" (rather dark). The lyrics were written by a 14 yr old.

The M*A*S*H TV series ran longer than the Koren War (police action). This is off topic as it's not Knowledge Recently Acquired but a point of interest and should not be forgotten. The Koren War was a War not a "police action."

M*A*S*H aired for 11 years, from September 1972 until February 1983. However, the Korean War itself lasted just over three years.

One of the best TV drama/sitcoms and iconic in US TV in history... just my humble opinion.

The word “literally” originally meant “of literature”. Like from Shakespeare or a novel.

Some many people took it to mean “actually” that Websters had to change the definition.

Literally….

Technically the Korean War still isn't over. There was an armistice between N & S and relative allied parties, but no actual treaty was ever signed
