Klain: GOP Wanted Us to Lower Gas Prices, Now They’re Saying SPR Should Be for Emergencies Only

On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain responded to criticisms by Republicans that the Strategic Petroleum Reserve should only be used for emergencies and that President Joe Biden is using it for political purposes by stating that he can’t take Republicans seriously because “we had Republicans say, hey, he needs to do something about gas prices, and then we did something about gas prices, and they’re, like, well, don’t do that.” And that Biden has been releasing from the reserve for the past year, which has lowered prices.

Co-host Joe Scarborough asked, “So, Ron, the President announced that we were going to be releasing 15 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Republicans, some Republicans have come out and been very critical, said that that should never be tapped into except in cases of war and that the President was only doing this because an election was a couple of weeks away. What’s your response to those criticisms?”

Klain responded, “Well, I’d say first of all, we had Republicans say, hey, he needs to do something about gas prices, and then we did something about gas prices, and they’re, like, well, don’t do that. So, it’s hard for me to take the criticism very seriously. Look, we’ve had a policy this year of a historic release from the petroleum reserve, and it’s worked to bring the price of gas down. Over the summer, it fell 98 days in a row, in part thanks to those releases. And by the way, not just us. The President worked to get other countries to do the same thing. India did a SPRO release, Japan, South Korea. We brought the world together as part of this effort, again, to deal with the consequences of the Russian war in Ukraine. We brought the price of gas down all summer long, almost $1.50. And then, around this action with Saudi Arabia, it started to go back up a bit. So, the President, again, brought the same tools to the table. Part of that was the release from the reserve you mentioned, Joe, but also part of what he announced yesterday was setting a price to refill the reserve, which gives the U.S. oil industry incentives to continue to explore and to produce more. We’re going to see record oil production in this country in 2023. We want to continue to responsibly increase that as we make the transition to clean energy in the long run. We think this country can have energy security and a clean energy future. That’s the direction we’re moving America in. And the President’s announcement yesterday was both about the price of gas in the short run and a more stable energy supply in the long run.”

Again with the Russia, Russia, Russia gag. It's been played out. The ONLY reason why gas/petroleum is sky high is due to this failed administration wanting to weaken America at each turn they can take. Cancelling the XL pipeline and the others as well was a recipe for disaster. Climbing back into bed with Iran so they can make nuclear weapons was dooming the rest of the Middle East especially Haus of Saud! Stuttering on about Maduro being a rogue regime and crawling back on your hands and knees for his oil was just plain stupid. A little kid can make the right call on this. You were wrong Lefty. Reverse course for America, for the World. Doing the right thing is too hard for Lefty. Even on their way to the political gallows...they're gonna die with their bad decisions and acts.

SNAPPY JOE: Watch Biden Flip Out When a Reporter Reminds Him No One Wants Him on the Campaign Trail

By The First

CHECK THE FACTS, JACK!

President Biden was asked on Thursday about the majority of Democrats who don’t want him on the campaign trail with them —and Joe got a little fired up.

“That’s not true! There’ve been 15. COUNT KID, COUNT!” Biden shot back.

No worries, Joe says voters will revolt against the Republicans...

Biden claims 'Mega-MAGA trickle-down' policies will drive voters to Democrats in midterms

Claims GOP wants tax cuts, overseas jobs.

President Joe Biden on Friday expressed confidence that policies he claimed are favored by Republicans will drive voters into casting their ballots for Democrats in next month's midterms.

The president made the remarks at a press conference addressing the U.S. budget deficit. Near the end of his planned remarks he pivoted to the midterms.

Democratic chances at winning the House and Senate have looked increasingly grim in recent weeks, but Biden claimed that what he called "Mega-MAGA trickle-down" policies from the GOP would lead voters to revolt against the Republican party in favor of Democrats.

Biden: ‘A Lot of What We’ve Done’ on Economy ‘Has Not Kicked in Yet’ — ‘I’m Not Sure about’ Polls Showing Voters Favor GOP on Economy

By IAN HANCHETT21 Oct 2022

During an interview with MSNBC on Friday, President Joe Biden responded to polling data showing people trust Republicans on the economy by stating he’s not sure how accurate polls are and “a lot of what we’ve done and we’ve passed has not kicked in yet.”

Host Jonathan Capehart asked, “[H]ere’s a problem, I think, for you and Democrats, despite all the good economic news, low unemployment, record job creation, wage increases, Social Security cost of living adjustment to 8.7%, the highest in 40 years. And yet, poll after poll shows that the American people trust Republicans on the economy and think that Republicans should control Congress. How do you break through that?”

Biden answered, “I’m not sure about the polls. Because the way people conduct polls today, it’s hard. 90% of it is you get on the telephone where you have to call seven times to get somebody to answer the phone, number one. Number two, a lot of what we’ve done and we’ve passed has not kicked in yet. For example, we have all this money to rebuild the highways, bridges, Internet, etc., but it’s going to take time. It’s not all happening overnight. It’s not like we passed a law and all of a sudden the highways and bridges are all functioning. And it’s not like we’re in a position where we’re saying no senior — which we do — is going to have to pay more than $2,000 a year for their drug costs…it hasn’t kicked in yet. It doesn’t kick in until next year.”

The DOJ Is Hiding Information About Biden’s Attempts To Interfere In U.S. Elections

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is slow-walking its response to a federal court order mandating that the agency forfeit records pertaining to President Joe Biden’s March 2021 executive order that directed federal agencies to develop plans for federal interference in state election administration.

On Thursday evening, the agency filed a motion for summary judgment with the Fort Myers Division of the U.S. Middle District Court of Florida in an attempt to conceal communication records related to Executive Order 14019, which required all federal departments to “consider ways to expand citizens’ opportunities to register to vote and to obtain information about, and participate in, the electoral process.” In law, “summary judgment” is a decision issued by a court based on statements and evidence for one party against another without going to a full trial.

The move to shield the records in question from the public comes after a federal judge mandated in July that the agency must turn over documents related to Biden’s order to the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), which sued the DOJ back in April after its officials failed to respond to FGA’s July 2021 open records requests. While the DOJ ultimately turned over a few of the records to FGA last month, the documents were heavily redacted and did not include the DOJ’s 15-page “strategic plan” on how the agency intends to comply with Biden’s executive order.

In their Thursday legal filing arguing for a summary judgment, the DOJ claimed that its Civil Rights Division (CRT) “has submitted a reasonably specific declaration” describing the search that CRT “conducted for records responsive to FGA’s [Freedom of Information Act] request” and that documents withheld or redacted by the DOJ are protected under the “presidential communications privilege.”

“The presidential communications privilege applies to the Strategic Plan because it was ‘solicited and received by the President[’s] . . . immediate White House advisers with broad and significant responsibility for investigating and formulating the advice to be given the President’ regarding voting rights issues,” the DOJ filing reads. “The Strategic Plan therefore falls squarely within the scope of the presidential communications privilege.”

Most notable in the agency’s arguments, however, is the contention that the release of the information requested by FGA would cause “public confusion” and that “such public confusion would result from disclosure of the Strategic Plan because it contains many proposed actions that the public might construe as ‘future commitments, past actions, or provisions already in place.'”

“DOJ therefore properly withheld the Strategic Plan in its entirety,” the agency claimed.

In response to the DOJ’s continued coverup, FGA President and CEO Tarren Bragdon issued a statement blasting the agency’s behavior, saying that it’s “clear” that Biden’s administration “has weaponized DOJ to hide records and is using the legal process to run out the clock before the midterm elections.”

“DOJ offered flimsy excuses to justify concealing key information regarding their participation in government-funded ‘get out the vote’ efforts,” Bragdon said. “FGA will not stop fighting to uncover these records and expose the full scope of the Biden administration’s mass voter registration scheme. The law and the American people are on our side.”

As reported by Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway, Biden’s executive order isn’t just unethical and unconstitutional, but “a recipe for chaos, confusion, and fraud at a time when election security concerns are particularly fraught.”

“Executive Order 14019 ignores that the Constitution does not give the executive branch authority over elections. That power is reserved for the states, with a smaller role for Congress,” Hemingway explained. Considering that “H.R. 1 and other Democrat Party efforts to grab more control over elections have thus far failed,” she added, “Congress hasn’t authorized such an expansion.”

With the 2022 midterms rapidly approaching, the Biden DOJ has since been ramping up its efforts to intervene in elections under the guise of targeting voter “intimidation” in various states across the country. Most recently, the DOJ’s district attorney in New Hampshire, Jane Young, appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth R. Aframe to “lead the efforts of her office in connection with the Justice Department’s nationwide Election Day Program” for the November elections.

“The Department of Justice has an important role in deterring and combatting discrimination and intimidation at the polls, threats of violence directed at election officials and poll workers, and election fraud,” an agency press release read. “The Department will address these violations wherever they occur.”

Yes, that cute little city by the bay that's been reduced to gutting their police department and hiring mental health advisors. St. Pete. I cringe anytime someone asks to go there for a restaurant, a show or walk along the causeways...it's ruined.

Meanwhile in the safe confines of King County, WA the Secretary of Transportation is excited about Fish highways that cost billions of taxpayer dollars and talks down to you about it!

Highways For Fishes: Watch Secretary Mayor Pete Tout Infrastructure Bill's Most Enthusiastic Project so far.

Secretary Mayor Pete is in high demand as a surrogate for Democratic candidates on the campaign trail, mainly because no one wants to be within a mile of Joe Biden. And while only 14th in the line of succession, just below HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge, He/Him receives more campaign surrogate requests than Vice President Kamala Harris, also for obvious reasons.

A few days ago, Secretary Mayor Pete visited King County Washington and toured a culvert replacement project near Issaquah and was so excited He/Him wanted to tell you about how it will help move the country forward.

Pete sounds like the host of an edutainment series for kids of all ages — "Secretary Mayor Pete’s World.” He's a master at breaking down complex issues, like holes under roads, and his enthusiasm for this remarkable feat of engineering is infectious.

Here he is explaining to the over taxed great unwashed what a culvert is and why we should care.

Here come the fearmongering! President Doomsayer says those MEGA MAGA TRICKLE DOWN SEMI-FASCISTS are up to no good!

Biden claims Republicans will crash the economy on purpose ahead of midterms: 'Mega-MAGA trickle down'

Biden says Republicans will try to force him to cut Medicare spending by threatening a debt default

President Biden attacked Republicans in a speech to the Democratic National Committee headquarters on Monday, stoking claims that Republicans would "crash the economy" in an attempt to force him to gut Medicare.

Biden also used the opportunity to coin the term "Mega-MAGA trickle down," which is how he has chosen to refer to Republican economic policies. The president went on to name House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, arguing that he and his fellow Republicans would grow the deficit by $3 trillion if their priorities were to pass. He also argued the party plans to use the deficit as a bludgeon against him.

Biden Gets Lost on the WH Lawn, Then Makes Very Revealing Statement

I think once we get past the midterms, there’s likely to be a countdown to when the Democrats finally start being honest about Joe Biden to sweep him to the side because of his issues. Of course, their bigger problem is that they don’t have good replacements for him. His second, Kamala Harris, has her own issues stringing together coherent sentences and doing anything that isn’t a failure. She’s also as unpopular as Joe Biden. So it doesn’t help them much.

All the other possibilities, like Gavin Newsom or Pete Buttigieg, are second or third-string at best. But whoever is looking better get on it, because it’s clear that time is fast approaching. As we’ve seen over the last couple of days with Biden appearing to nod off/have some kind of issue in an interview as well as completely fantasizing that he’d passed a law for his student debt bailout which never happened.

On Monday, he was at it again, just trying to get through the day, failing without having yet more issues.

Here he was wishing Kamala Harris a “Happy Birthday” and calling her “president” for the umpteenth time.

https://tinyurl.com/22w5hnj5

At this point, who knows? Maybe he does believe she is the president, he certainly keeps saying it. Once is a mistake. Several times is a problem. Of course, maybe he’s just speaking about the plan for the future since he can’t seem to stop saying the quiet part out loud.

But that wasn’t the only problem Biden had on Monday.

Biden and his wife participated in an event to honor the White House groundskeeper Dale Haney who has held the job for the last 50 years. That’s a pretty impressive feat and they helped plant an elm tree on the south grounds in recognition of Haney’s achievement.

https://tinyurl.com/4758by7v

Congratulations to Mr. Haney for serving all those years!

That was just on the south grounds, it’s Biden’s own lawn. Yet, after the event, he still got lost and had to be directed to go back to the White House which was right behind him after he started walking off in another direction.

https://tinyurl.com/5n943a3u

Where’s the Easter Bunny when you need him? It looks like his handler Jill has just given up on him here, she just starts walking off without him. You have to wonder what’s going on there and how anyone could do this to someone if she loved him, knowing his issues.

But he says something there that is truly concerning. “I notice how much freedom I have,” Biden says.

Did he just confess to how much he is being controlled there? It sure sounds like it. So he’s getting lost and they have to control what he does. Everything is just fine, no one should be concerned about this. Who cares if the guy we have in charge is being controlled by others?

Everyone can see Biden’s problems when they see things like this, including our enemies. It’s getting worse each day. And we are going to be in great trouble if something isn’t done about it.

On a side note...

"Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s 37-year-old day-to-day ruler, mocks President Biden in private, making fun of the 79-year-old’s gaffes and questioning his mental acuity, according to people inside the Saudi government.

He has told advisers he hasn’t been impressed with Mr. Biden since his days as vice president, and much preferred former President Donald Trump, the people said."

The money from the sell is going into the general fund. Goodbye money. Supposed to be used to pay down the national debt. Then again the SPR is for military usage and times of historical disasters not because your party needs cover from failed policies and even worse ideologies all to win a midterm election that their party wants to make all about their supposed insurrection and abortion.

The Implications Of U.S. SPR Withdrawals

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve’s (SPR) oil is sold competitively when the President of the United States of America finds, pursuant to the conditions set forth in the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), that a sale is required. In the past, oil resources were withdrawn from the SPR to meet domestic oil requirements – such as Emergency Drawdowns, Non-Emergency Sales, SPR Modernization Sales, and Mandated Sales. In March 2022, such orders were issued by the President of the United States, Joe Biden. President Biden has decided to open the SPR to mitigate the consequences of the Russia-Ukraine conflict that led the United States and its allies to put harsh economic sanctions on Russia. Consequently, these sanctions, and not unexpectedly, tight oil and gas supply in the international market has raised international energy prices.

There are two factors that simultaneously occurred and accelerated the withdrawals from the SPR from March 21 to July 2022. During this period, inflation remained above the target rate of 2%. The real problem is mainly associated with the aftermath of COVID-19. The supply chain issues, stimulus over an extended period, and low-interest rates have helped to reinvigorate the U.S. economy, but have led to a prolonged period of high inflation. Economic stimulus and rising oil and gas prices have further aggravated domestic inflation causing hardship to domestic consumers. In fact, it gradually increased from 2.6% in March 2021 to 9.1% in June 2022. At the same time, WTI was also trending upward, rising from around $60/bbl in March 2021 to over $100/bbl most of the year 2022 (see Figure-1 & 2). To provide some relief to domestic consumers, the United States withdrew 169.768 million barrels from the SPR during this period. As a result, the SPR reached the low level of 468 million barrels at the end of July 2022. More recently, there were reports that there were only 427.2 million barrels of fuel left in the reserve fuel stocks of the United States that could cater to about 50 days of the U.S’ daily oil consumption.

Related: Cash For Fracking: UK Households May Receive Payouts For Allowing Fracking

This year’s SPR withdrawal constitutes the largest-ever withdrawal on record. An argument can be made here that the U.S. government has taken proactive measures of economic sanctions on Russia and was quite aware of the consequences.

Whatever the argument, the message is clear to OPEC and Russia that if they try to manipulate oil production for higher oil prices, the U.S. will counter it by releasing crude from its SPR. The only danger is how much SPR can be released risk-free, from a strategic perspective, and how long will it take to replenish SPR reserves.

Surely, it will take many years or decades to refill the SPR to roughly 700 million barrels. The speed of replenishment depends on many factors. However, the biggest factors are oil prices and the development of domestic inflation. Excessive withdrawals could be risky, as Russia could intentionally prolong the conflict with Ukraine. This strategy provides more leverage to OPEC to manipulate oil production to push oil prices even higher. Such a strategy by OPEC and Russia may create further oil and gas shortages in Europe in particular. As expected, OPEC and non-OPEC allies, also referred to as OPEC+, announced on October 5, 2022 that they will cut oil production by 2 million barrels a day (mmbd) starting in November. With the rise in oil prices, global natural gas and electricity prices will also rise. If the upcoming winter in Europe is harsh, consumers suffering from fuel shortages will be test cases for their respective governments. Furthermore, at some point, the U.S. will not have the luxury of additional SPR releases to keep oil prices in check and to provide relief to domestic consumers. Prolonging such a strategy may backfire. Therefore, the U.S. should adopt a strategy of increasing domestic oil production to reduce oil import dependency and have more flexible strategic options.

Figure-1: Historical relationship between SPR (thousand barrels) and WTI $/bbl on y-2 axis) (Source: EIA).

Figure-2: Historical relationship between SPR (thousand barrels) and US inflation (inflation y-2 axis) (Source: EIA).

Fundamental Problem

The question is how long can the U.S. government continue to rely on SPR releases? Is it sustainable?

Figure-3 depicts the historical monthly average trends of United States oil consumption, total oil production, shale oil production, and WTI. Since January 2010, U.S. oil import dependency has been on the decline, due to a substantial increase in U.S. shale oil production, as well as stable oil consumption which mostly remains around 19 to 21 million bpd.

Since 2014, the U.S. shale industry has developed into a more mature industry which currently produces around 8.7 million bpd out of a total of 11.79 million bpd. While considerably lower than its production peak of 13.3 million bpd in January 2022, the U.S. oil import dependency declined to 42% at the end of July 2022, as compared to 71% in January 2010. As such, the solution is not forcing the oil companies to curtail product exports or forcing them to stockpile more fuels in U.S. storage tanks but rather to address the fundamental problem.

I think relying too much on SPR may only solve the short-term problems at hand. Instead, the underlying problem needs to be addressed. There’s a need to develop a two-pronged long-term strategy to reduce oil import dependency and reduce reliance on the SPR in the future. First, the oil industry needs to invest in upstream operations, and focus on finding and developing more reserves. To do this, the government needs to open new acreage in federally controlled areas as well as provide some incentives to oil and gas companies to invest in exploration, development and production activities. Secondly, the U.S. needs to develop a strategy of accelerating the use of electric vehicles (EVs). The government should provide incentives for electric vehicle buyers as well as for companies that install EV infrastructure. A speedy penetration of EVs will surely displace a considerable amount of oil in the transportation sector. However, both parts of this strategy take a considerable amount of time to be implemented, and lower crude prices may lead to both slower adoption of EVs and a lower upstream oil and gas capex.

Figure-3: Historical monthly trends of USA total oil production, consumption, Shale oil production (mmbd) and oil import dependency (%) (Source: EIA).

Figure-4: USA Shale monthly trends – mmbd relationship to WTI (Source: EIA).

Implications of OPEC-+ Production Cut

I think OPEC has not learned from its past mistakes, as it is not a good time to cut oil production by 2 million bpd in November 2022, especially at a time when global economies are under pressure. While higher oil prices at this juncture may bring much needed oil revenues to (national) oil companies and OPEC members, this will come at the cost of accelerating a global recession, bringing more misery to consumers. Consequently, it will weaken global oil demand and oil prices. Oil prices in the range of $70-$80/bbls at this difficult time could be a win-win situation for both producers and consumers, and shield global economies from collapsing. Consequently, the U.S. should take its own measures to enhance its domestic oil production, encourage EVs and halt further releases of the SPR. Running down the SPR will allow OPEC+ more flexibility to play around with production.

Biden Claims There Are '54 States' In Latest Gaffe

Remember when a group of psychiatrists led by fired ex-Yale shrink Brandy X Lee wanted to impeach Trump for 'lacking mental capacity to fulfill the duties of his office'?

While Brandy continues to obsess over Trump, Joe Biden - the man with his finger on the button, is a complete vegetable.

In his latest gaffe, the 'most popular president in US history' claimed that Democrats campaigned in "54 states" in 2018 to defend Obamacare.

"And, of course, they’re going try for their 499th time, or whatever the number is — they’re still determined to eliminate the Affordable Care Act. And, by the way, if they do, that means — not a joke, everybody," said Biden, not jokingly. "That’s why we defeated it in 2018 when they tried to do it. We went to 54 states."

https://tinyurl.com/563npb83

"The reason is people didn’t realize that the only reason anybody who has a pre-existing condition can get health care is because of that Affordable Care Act," Biden continued, warning that "these protections will be gone as well if Republicans get their way."

Amazingly, Biden has his defenders - including this self-described 'attorney and animal lover' who claims Biden must have been referencing US territories, while talking about Dems campaigning for Obamacare.

Of course, even if Biden was talking about US territories - their residents can't vote in US elections and have non-voting representation in Congress.
