Oh boy. Tough one Al. Sorry to hear about your sister but glad to hear that you found a facility that can properly take care of her.

Sounds like a tough situation Al. I think most of us hope to live a long life but not be a burden on our family in our old age. Unfortunately, that is not always the case.

Prayers for your family delta. I’m not sure if this is helpful, but whenever I confirm a dementia diagnosis, I recommend this book to the family.

My clients’ families have let me know it’s very helpful.

Also, good morning everyone

Had to jump my car before work last night. Started right up when I left this morning.

But then 5 min into the drive home:

I have an HP Envy 17" touchscreen laptop. Can't recall how long I have had it, but it's starting to sheit the bed on me. Screen goes all scramble-y and it locks up. I have to force shut it down, and then it starts right back up and is fine for a while, until it does it again. Never know when it's going to happen.

Costco has a similar one for $900.

You computer guys... what is it? Bad motherboard? Or is it just old and time to replace it? Or maybe is it fkn windows because I haven't bumped up to 11 yet?

Fkn computers... It's a love hate relationship.

Just checked my Costco account... I bought it over 2 years ago, because the site only goes back to January of 2021 and it was before that.

had to move my sister out of the assisted living senior center because she was falling so frequently and injuring herself. She was there less than a year before they told us they are unable to provide the care she needs. They told us she could stay if we paid for a 24/7 live in aide that would be there to help her move around without falling. That would cost $650/day on top of the monthly fee of $7,200 for their regular services, for a total of $27,000/month. Outrageous!!! They suggested we find a residential care facility that could provide the type of care she needs. This was tantamount to an eviction notice.

After an extensive search in our area, we found a residential care facility near our house that provides 24/7/365 care, two care-givers on site around the clock, supervised by a former nurse. She has a private bedroom and there are only four other residents. 3 meals/day, snacks, laundry service, housecleaning, diaper service, assistance to the bathroom and bathing/showering, help getting dressed...all for less than her monthly fee at the senior center. And the primary care-givers are friendly, helpful and personable.

sister can no longer walk on her own with a walker...very little strength in her left arm and leg...spends most of the day in a transport chair and has to be pushed around...needs help getting out of, and into bed...her short-term memory is almost non-existent...breathtaking how rapidly her mental and physical health has deteriorated in the last couple of years.

FWIW, my wife managed four skilled care facilities and is a Medicare expert. She will give you any help, even with applications, should you need it. The offer remains open indefinitely...

Take it to a local computer shop first. Not Geek Squad or the like. They are a total rip off.

Costco is a great place to buy laptops. They offer a one year extended warranty if you purchase one with a Costco Visa. They also offer two and three year long warranties from squareTrade/Allstate.L astly, if you buy your computer from Costco, they provide free telephone technical assistance for the life of the computer.(Told you to buy one at Costco last time, but if IRC you went to Best Buy.)

Anyhow, I am in laptop hell, sitting at the computer store while they download all the data I cleared off before sending it into Square Trade for a new battery, cord, screen and battery- all for the $65 I paid for the warranty. Second day in a row. I feel your pain.

I did buy this laptop from Costco. At the advice of the Gerbil... he sent me the link to the one that best fit. I can get the same one from them, with minor upgrades due to this one being a couple/few years old... $983 after tax, title, license, and delivery. 😣
