had to move my sister out of the assisted living senior center because she was falling so frequently and injuring herself. She was there less than a year before they told us they are unable to provide the care she needs. They told us she could stay if we paid for a 24/7 live in aide that would be there to help her move around without falling. That would cost $650/day on top of the monthly fee of $7,200 for their regular services, for a total of $27,000/month. Outrageous!!! They suggested we find a residential care facility that could provide the type of care she needs. This was tantamount to an eviction notice.
After an extensive search in our area, we found a residential care facility near our house that provides 24/7/365 care, two care-givers on site around the clock, supervised by a former nurse. She has a private bedroom and there are only four other residents. 3 meals/day, snacks, laundry service, housecleaning, diaper service, assistance to the bathroom and bathing/showering, help getting dressed...all for less than her monthly fee at the senior center. And the primary care-givers are friendly, helpful and personable.
sister can no longer walk on her own with a walker...very little strength in her left arm and leg...spends most of the day in a transport chair and has to be pushed around...needs help getting out of, and into bed...her short-term memory is almost non-existent...breathtaking how rapidly her mental and physical health has deteriorated in the last couple of years.
