Long long time ago, I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while...

Gonna do a batch of pasta sauce in the crock pot. Lazy man's version.

1 lb ground beef (80/20)
1 lb ground Italian sausage (either hot, mild or sweet, your preference)*
1 yellow onion, diced
Couple of cloves of garlic, smashed and diced

Fry up meat with the onions and garlic. Since making a meat sauce, break the meat up into shards or crumbles while frying it. Drain grease. Add meat stuff to the crock pot...

Then dump into the pot...

15 oz of diced tomato (one can), drain the liquid off.
Couple jars of basic pasta sauce. Any name brand or generic brand
(I cheat and will probably get flamed for this but rather than do the cans of tomato sauce and tomato paste, I just buy a basic pasta sauce in a jar and spruce it up).
1/2 a cup of dry red wine of your choosing.

*Some red pepper flakes to add a bit of zing - user preference. If using hot sausage, no need for this. If using mild or sweet sausage, add or don't depending on your level of zing you want.

Dried Italian herbs... the all in one thingy you can find anywhere (basil, oregano, rosemary, savory, tyme, marjoram). Again a cheater's way out rather than buy each of them individually.

Toss everything into the into crock pot, stir it up and let it simmer on low for like 6 hrs or about 3 hours on high. Could also simmer it on the stove top in a stock pot rather than using a crock but just let it go low and slow so the flavors blend.

Stir and sample it periodically along the way .

Serve over your favorite pasta shape along with some garlic bread and a salad.

Another option is to add hunks of sausage (in replacement of the ground sausage). Cut up into, say, 1" nuggets and add it to the sauce to simmer with it.

Happy Saturday gents. A clear 45 going to 69 here this morning. A 5 miler followed by the gym is in the planning phase. The doing phase is waiting until there is a little daylight.

I kinda like the smell of nitro-methane and a long burnout in the morning.

Dog wasn't much interested in a long walk today. Prolly wore out from playing yesterday.

I need the damn walk, though...#-o

Woke up at 630am on a Saturday. I hate that.

Gonna go look at some land today. Nothing crazy…1-2 acres subdivisions.

Got a brisket for tomorrow on the smoker. Just the point portion. Usually do flats.

Happy Saturday fellas

Speaking of briskets, made a pretty damn good cornbread a couple days ago. Mixed in shredded chopped brisket, jalapenos, cheese. Definitely will make again

Replaced power steering pump in the beater. No more screeching and sticky steering.

Easiest PS pump I've ever done. I planned on spending a few hours in the garage but it was done in 30m.

Car $750
Starter $100
Exhaust $400
Hood and grille $150
PS pump $120

$1500ish over 6mo need to run it longer. $280ish/mo it's cost me so far. That was my payment for the wife's 2016 civic that's only needed tires and brakes.

How's everyone doing?

I am in Detroit. Weather sucks! 51F/33F with rain all day into tonight and tomorrow. Winds increasing to 24/37.

But, we are here for my daughter's engagement party!

Arrived Thursday lunchtime. Directly from airport to Lafayette Coney Island for lunch in downtown Detroit. Dispensary run. Then, dinner in Mexican Town at Xochimilca, before going back to the airport to pick up my son, who joined us (of course).

A couple of morning cigars yesterday at Churchills before lunch at a Lebanese restaurant (Sahara).

Met all of his immediate family for dinner last night at Buddy's Pizza.

Went to Eastern Market this morning. Burger for lunch at Diamond Jim Brady's.
Meeting his uncle, who I know and really like and who is also very entertaining character, and a bunch of supposedly "colorful" cousins, for dinner at Wing Hong. Going to order my favorite dish from there. Haven't had for 40-45 years.

Everyone is having a great time!

(Ironic thing about it all- I went on two or three dates with my daughter's fiance's mother when we were like 14 years old- but she went to totally different schools then and thereafter, so we haven't seen each other in like 45 years. It's a small world...)
