Neighbor's teenager son is out walking door to door to see if anyone needs to be shoveled and snow blown out for the impending storm. We have some elderly folks in the neighborhood that he knows and helps out clearing snow in the winter. Good to see a young kid helping out the elderly folks. $25 to clear out their driveway, steps, and sidewalks.

Say it takes him 30 minutes to clear the snow... that's about $50 an hour. Not a bad short time gig and I applaud him for helping out others. I told him to freely use my snowblower and stuff for his endeavors. Sure, he's making money but also helping folks. $25 to clear out the snow from your driveway, steps and sidewalk is pretty cheap in my area. I applaud the kid.

You gotta try San Francisco Bay Area traffic. Only LA is worse.

We have traffic here in Houston since it is the third largest city but nothing in comparison to California. California doesn’t build new roads. Here in Texas we have concrete. We have extra concrete. We build lots of roads! How wide you want it? Eight lanes. Let’s build it twelve lanes and add an access road in each direction.

Over did it today. Three inches of snow shoveled, walked three miles in the snow. Bought an upgrade of winter work gloves, ice melt, then a supreme meatball sub. Watching the NFL. Not the usual pop of a Steelers Ravens game.

Slept better today. Only woke up 3x that I remember. Deep asleep mid dreams when the alarm goes off is such a disorienting way to start the day.

Not sure if your daily schedule changes radically like swing shift but there are things you can do to help you get a better night's sleep. For me the key was to cut out eating late especially sugar, and keep the room cool like in the 60s and dark. You might want to try an Oura ring. It does a bunch of stuff but really helped me understand how to get better sleep.

Bought one these this summer but haven't used it yet so I have no review for input. Says it can handle 6" of snow and the battery lasts about 2 hrs between charges depending on how much snow and how heavy it is that it needs to throw. Amazon user ratings are 4 out of 5 stars (3,000+ reviews).

I wouldn't use it to do the snowbanks that the plow trucks leave behind. However but it looks like it works just fine for sidewalks, patio, decks, path for the oil heating guy to get to the fill tube, smaller snow accumulation and stuff.

Ask me tomorrow. It will either work for simple stuff like I mentioned (heavy stuff will be done with a regular snow blower) or it will be tossed out in the road in frustration.

So far we just have a dusting. Maybe the weather folks were faking it and doing a trial run for snow predictions.

Procrastinating on clearing the snow. It's still moderately snowing. The weather folks say we have about 9 inches on the ground around here and we might get another 4-6 inches by the end of the day. The good thing is that it's light and fluffy powder snow.

50 degree, breezy dog walk. Turkey vultures chowing down on a large, dead opossum... they didn't see the dead squirrel about 1/4 mile down the road from it. Or it just doesn't have enough meat on it to leave that big ol' opossum.

Poor opossum. Maybe it was playing opossum and the vultures called it's bluff.

Opossums are rather beneficial animals for humans and the like.

"The many beneficial qualities of opossums include:

- Keeping neighborhoods clear of pests like cockroaches, rats, and mice.
- Reducing the Lyme-disease carrying tick population, by eating nearly 95% of ticks that cross their path.
- Controlling venomous species of snakes, which is possible because of their resistance to venom.
- Having an extremely low risk of contracting rabies!
- Keeping gardens blooming by eating snails, slugs, and fallen, overripe fruit.

Opossums are usually shy and harmless animals, with two main defense mechanisms. First, if an opossum is frightened and unable to flee, she may display her teeth and hiss. Although this behavior might appear fierce, it is usually just a warning. Second, if they feel they are in real danger, they might “play possum” and have the appearance of being dead. When the opossum feels that he is no longer in danger, he will revive himself and move on."
