It's not the choice or cost I care about. My dead optometrist was extremely expensive, even with insurance. The guy who took over doesn't take insurance.

It's getting the prescription that works for me that's the hard part. Astigmatism, horribly nearsighted, double vision beyond about 100ft when wearing glasses or contacts with the measured prescription. He got me wearing different strengths in each eye and while I can't read through the lenses, I can drive without double vision. So I pick short frame height so I can read over/under the glasses.

Probably wouldn't be a terrible idea to see an eye surgeon/lasik dude. My insurance does have s $5k lifetime allowance for vision correction surgery. But... my career is mostly dealing with complications of surgeries so I'm extremely wary of an elective procedure that I can 100% go without.

average a pair of glasses every 2 years...vision has been pretty stable for about 10 years...I can see well enough with those glasses, except for all the scratches on the lenses...

I prefer lighter, smaller wire metal frames with the lighter, thin high index lenses...progressives

I have a new vision plan insurance from the company I work for. I think it's like $1.75 a week for the vision insurance. I haven't used it but I probably should sine I'm paying for it. Even if I get another eye check up and a pair of for backup glasses, I should probably take advantage of it since I'm paying for it.

I'm with delta. I like lighter progressive lenses. I'm not a fan of wire metal frames though. I would probably break them. The ones I have are durable plastic frames (as long as I don't with on them).

They also have this neon green tips on the end of the bow (the part that goes behind your ears) which puzzled me. Then one night I woke up from bed to take a pee, the glasses where on the nightstand next to the bed and the little neon green tips glowed in the dark.

Aha, that's what the neon green tips are for. They glow in the dark so you can find them. Simple things for a simpleton like me.

Danm - I had PRK back in 1998 before they started doing the LASIK thing. The Navy did it for me, so it was free... but 25 years later and I can still see distance just fine.

I can't see up close worth a sheit... and the bottles with the small print? F U! I have to take a picture with my phone then expand it so I can read it. 😂

Morning folks. Up too damn early cuz I couldn't sleep. Going to be 34/54 and sunny.

After reading all this about vision I guess I'm lucky. Have only had one really good eye all my life (deadeyedick) but have never needed anything but readers from the drug store for the last 30+ years. My doc talked me into LASIC on both eyes about 5 years ago but I can't say it changed anything in my vision after the procedures.

When we got RK, the first iteration using a diamond knife to make radial cuts, the Doc told us the need to use reading glasses. part of normal aging, would come about sooner because of the RK surgery.

Oh, and Good Morning to All!

Yesterday’s snow glove is gone. Big, wet, sloppy flakes blown around in 30-40 mph winds, all cleaned up. Just in time for another 1-3 inches tonight.

It’s winter. We got a pass in December, although Old Man Winter is starting to raise his game.

Three egg omelette (spinach, garlic & cheddar cheese) and coffee complete. Dogwalk later.

A week or so ago my sister was asking me how I make kimchi. Sent her some recipes and video links. It planted the seed in my brain and I decided to make some today.

I decided to go to the Asian store to get my things. It's a Filipino store but a girl at work said they probably have all the stuff. Typical small ethnic store. Asked the lady for help finding the things, she did and when she rang me up the total was $17. Gave her a $20 said keep the change and thanks for the help.

Last two times I made it I got the stuff online, local grocer, and whole foods. Cost me $35-40 to make 4 jars both times. $17 at the Asian store got me 6 jars of kimchi.

Now the house smells like fish sauce.

Got an alert on my phone winter storm warning for Friday and Saturday.

Should probably make sure I have generator gas. I don't think I've started the generator since mid summer.

Got about 80% of the ice off of the driveway. Small victories.

There's this thing in MA run buy the MA Treasurer's office. They hold any unclaimed property.

"Unclaimed property consists of unclaimed financial assets such as checking and savings accounts, unpaid wages, securities, uncashed dividends, life insurance policies, uncashed checks, safe deposit boxes, etc that are without activity for a certain period of time. It does not include real estate or vehicles. Typically assets become unclaimed when the owner cannot be contacted for a three-year period by the holder of the asset, or for fifteen years in the case of traveler's checks."

Saw a commercial on it. I don't think anyone owes me money but I thought, why not give it a look? Turns out a bank that I use to use has $55.71 (plus any appropriate interest) sitting there in my name and they turned it over to the Unclaimed property division of the MA Treasure's office. When I closed the account years ago to move to another bank I probably left a little money behind to cover uncleared checks or something.

Obviously not much money but I'd rather have the $55 in my pocket than the pocket of a bank that I no longer use or the pocket of the Treasurer's slush fund.

With $55 I could probably buy a Gurkha or two at retail prices. WHOOP, WHOOP!
