HR called again today around 11am.

They wanted to confirm that I was aware the job I interviewed for was day shift.

This is the third phone call I've gotten since submitting the transfer request asking if I knew what I applied for.

So clearly they are fully aware that I've been a longstanding nightshift dude.

But they call me at 11am...

I've not only applied for the job, and noted in the "reason for transfer request" that I want to go to day shift.

I've already interviewed for the job. You'd think that's when I'd get blindsided by the shocking revelation that it's dayshift. No. 11am 7 days after the interview they need to make sure I know it's dayshift.

What big red flags do they have in my employee file? Clearly there's some notation about me not working dayshift. Maybe when I went back on full time in 2015 and had an agreement that I'd be week on week off straight nights. But that was 3 managers ago and HR wasn't involved.

Just to confirm: Do you understand that this is a 1st shift position (a.k.a day shift)? Maybe a blood test turned up with vampire DNA or sumptin'. Are you unable to function when the Sun is up? Are you afraid of garlic? Do you have a reflection in a mirror? Do you drink blood? The answers to these questions need further clarification.

Nope. They want to drag their feet and frsutrate you because they would prefer you to be in your current positions. Many Leaders are leaders in name only. They don't want anything knocking them out of their routine.

Think Idiocracy. You are unscanable. Its messing everything up.

Stay committed to the goal and don't show frustration. Kill em with calm, patient answers to their inane questions. You'll get there.

Interesting.

Not too many get calls from their previous employer to come back.

But were there issues at the previous company that caused you to leave? If so, have they been resolved?

Do you give your current employer a chance to counteroffer?

Like you said, tough one.

Not knowing the details but it sounds like a good option, Drafter.

I'm contemplating doing another job search. The one I landed this past spring isn't turning out to be what I was expecting and the roles and responsibilities are not what was laid out to me when I signed on. It's an OK job. I like parts of it but not pleased with other parts of it.

One key member of the team put in his 2 weeks a couple weeks ago and they told him to just leave the following day. They didn't let him tie up loose ends on the projects he was working on and help those that would be taking the responsibilities for a smooth transition after his departure. There are holes that need to be filled and those that need to fill them are starting at ground zero. Company, in my opinion, didn't handle it well.

I got a better offer they couldn't match when I left them.. a co-worker from then is now the Engineering manager ... now I'm betting my current employer can't match the new offer... gonna be about a 15% increase.. will only have to report to the office 1 or 2 days a week and will work from home the rest of the week... still a tough decision... 😟

Another thing to consider is the coworkers you will be working with. Personalities and company environment can make and break a job and working relationships.

Can you also get an idea on how the health insurance works? Deductibles, coinsuance, max out of pocket per year. How much comes out of your paycheck every two weeks. 401k, company match, yada yada yada.

You've already proved you can leave and come back if or when needed.
