Jake,

A guy on the "Lawn Site" forums said the same thing as you about Red Armor. He took one of his weedeaters apart and found a thin red film all over the internals of the engine (Piston, Cylinder, Crank Case). A lot of guys there and on the "Arborist.com" forum say Red Armor is the best 2 cycle oil made.

I think a lot of the FOGS, recommend Amsoil Golden Saber. Never tried it.

I've only used Stihl HP Ultra, Red Armor and, briefly, the cheap stuff from Walmart. Just gonna stick with the Red Armor.

I've got hundreds of hours logged on my Stihl FS 111 R Brushcutter.

I purchased it new and I'm on my 4th season using it without any issues. It's got that "4mix" engine. So it's a 4 stroke engine that takes 2 cycle gas. The torque output on those engines is superb.

I've changed the fuel filter twice, air filter 3 or 4 times, greased the gear box several times and adjusted the valves once. That's it. Same Spark plug. Half the time I used Stihl oil, other half Red Armor.

Eventually I'll post a list of what machines I use to take care of this property and some of the ones I'd like to eventually get.

Here's that Amsoil stuff a lot of guys say works great:

https://www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-saber-professional-100-synthetic-2-stroke-oil-atp/?code=ATP1G-EA

Notice it says run at 100:1 whereas some guys go as low 32:1 or even lower in their chainsaws and trimmers.

I'm afraid to do either. My Stihl machines call for a 50:1 ratio and Lawnboy says use a 32:1 ratio in their mowers....so that's what I do.

Neighbor kid. Ariens push mower set to mulch the clippings. If I had to guess prolly 21" blade which I think is pretty standard size and not self propelled. The yards around me are rather flat so no need for self propel.

I got a Kobalt 20in Cordless 40v Electric Mower that came with a Kobalt weed eater that I got for helping someone move. I got a small back and front yard, so it does the trick.

I run 2 cycle racing oil left from my scooter modding days. If it worked in my 15000rpm scooters pulling me along at 60mph, it'll work in my weed whacker. Mix as directed

I'm an Echo guy for my 2t

Mowers a cub cadet xt1 54" fab deck

I wanted the 54, but they only had the 50 at the time, with the XT1's. I bought it in May and they still hadn't got any 54's in--it's a pretty big dealership too.

The oil threads are hilarious on some of these lawn/chainsaw forums. First is the fight over which oil is better, then the ratio. I think it's like their politics topic.

Do you remember which ones you had? Were they the cheap homeowner stuff?

I had problems with the throttle linkage on my cheap MS 180 homeowner saw. They tried to fix it, didnt help.

So Stihl replaced it for me. No problems with the replacement.

What do you use those big saws for other than for the fun of collecting? You cut your own firewood to heat your home?

My "big saw" is really just a small saw for guys who cut timber for a living. It's 50cc. My small saw is 32cc.

New water pump starter assembly supposed to be here Monday as well as the new water pump unit I ordered as a back up.

So by Monday evening I should have two fully functioning 2 stroke water pumps.

I'm a fan of the Husqvarna chainsaw. I have a 350 I use for most everything and a 570 for felling bigger trees.

For a line trimmer Echo SRM-2620. Love it.

For the lawn I have a Scag Turf Tiger II with 37hp Briggs Vanguard engine and 61" Velocity deck. This machine is a great time saver, it's not cheap but worth every penny.

This is definitely a Stihl dominated area. I think there is 1 Echo dealership within 50 miles of me and they only do sales, no warranty service.

The two closest Stihl dealerships are 29 and 38 miles from me, one way. I go to the one that's 38 miles away bc I like the guys there.

The owner is cool, and funny. But I really like the mechanic. He's younger than me, but more my age than the owner. I have the mechanics personal phone number and text with him from time to time.

Talk about service, I can text him about inventory and any problems I may have any day or time of the week. He lives about halfway between where I live and the dealership and has offered to meet me halfway with parts for my machines--he knows I only pay in cash. Lol

They are good guys. I'm going to bring them some of the corn I've grown as thank you next time I'm down that way.
