This property and our garden is a lot to manage though. So I don't get to fish as much as I used to, that's for sure.

Heck I’d also say I dislike stihl ultra oil
However it may not be the absolute worst in a 4 mix engine but I’d run red armor instead. Ultra likes to leave a lot of deposits. Like “crud” atop your pistons. Which could in theory flake off and get snagged on your rings. Red armor actually cleans that stuff up so it’s gonna be the better choice no matter which 2 stroke style.

I just checked and this stuff is 89 to 96 dollars a gallon now. I paid 75 for it in early 2023. Have a little over a quart left but I don't think I can go an entire season on that amount.

That Husky XP+ oil is $49 per gallon. You still going with Red Armor at $90+ dollars for a gallon? Is it worth it in your opinion?

I think I can find it cheaper but if I could not I’d probably switch. I do like the red armor a lot though. My favorite

Had good luck with Kawasaki ktech. I’d probably hunt it down I guess. Used to be pretty affordable

I've checked Amazon, Ebay and Walmart. Walmart uses an outside vendor and it's 86.

I've seen it other places, like Home Depot, but they don't sell it in the gallon quantity.

There's one place I can check for Red Armor "locally", but it's lookin like XP+ for me, or maybe just buy a quart of Stihl HP Ultra from the dealership to get me through the season.

Like I mentioned I have a little over a quart of Red Armor left--there's no way I'll go through more than 2 quarts of oil in total.

This is 45 a gal on Amazon. I thought it would be more.

I'm gonna go with this unless I can find Red Armor @ a reasonable price.

Thanks for the info.

I haven’t priced oil in a bit but yeah. If that’s what I find I’m gonna go back to the ktech Stuff looked good at 32:1 on that

I do believe you could use less oil with the red armor but I don’t really wanna math it out.

I didn't even think about that. Yeah I had planned to run it 45:1 like I've been doing with the Red Armor.

But there's a big difference in running Red Armor 50:1 verses another brand at 32:1.

So really, even though the Kawasaki is half the cost your not really saving that much money. If you ran Red Armor @ 50:1 and Kawasaki @ 25:1 there would be no difference in cost.

Ired armor is definitely safe at 45:1. I ran the Kawasaki at 32:1. Everything looked good when I checked exhaust side. (Muffler came loose)

^ It's out of stock at that place. I think they must not have gotten any for a long time bc I think that's an old price.

Sometimes I see that kind of thing happen with cigars too. Price on a certain cigar looks cheaper than everyone else, but they haven't gotten that blend in for a long time.

Took my 2003 Cub Cadet 1515 in yesterday for servicing. (Fix PTO, front tires, new fuel filter, new spark plug etc)

He's gonna find me a couple used junk yard tires that are in better shape than the ones I have on there. He did that for the muffler a couple years ago. It's a 2003 with 500 hrs--I put the least amount possible into it. He said it should be ready in a couple weeks max--they aren't very busy this time of year.

Knowledge recently acquired:

The hour meter is no longer standard on the Cub Cadet XT1 series lawn tractors. You have to pay $75 extra for the meter and install it yourself or pay to have someone install it.

What the hell, that is an essential component when it comes to maintenance of the machine. One day they're just going to sell the frame for 3k and if you want wheels and an engine you're going to have to pay extra for that and install it yourself.

Guy at the Stihl/Cub Cadet dealership called me and said that the clutch bearing on my 1515 was completely seized up and need a new one.

It also needs a new drive belt. Glad I didn't try to change the PTO on it, bc it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

I'm going to call Monday and try to get an estimate for for parts + labor. I doubt it's going to be super expensive, but at a certain price point it wont be worth it to me to fix.

I can get a cheap used Cub Cadet with a bigger mowing deck, for my wife, if need be. She likes helping me mow. She doesn't want any part of the weedeating though.

I'm gonna find out. Got a gallon of XP+ for 48 bucks.

Couldnt bring myself to pay 96 dollars for Red Armor.

I'm gonna run it @ 45:1 maybe 40:1. If my 271 blows I'll get a 400.1 when they come out. If my 111 brushcutter blows I'll get a 131.

So I'm either going to get cheaper oil or new gear. Win win.😟

Changed the oil in the XT1 riding mower this evening. Greased the zerks, put air in tires, new air filter...

Started every machine I have, other than my two water pumps, my 1999 dura force that doesn't run, and my 1515 riding mower that's STILL in da shop. (It's been two months and he still hasn't gotten the blades in stock.):-k

Everything started right up, even the 1991 Lawnboy :)

I'm pretty much ready for the lawn and garden season.
