18,000 steps at work today and I never even left the main lab. Usually high step days I'm working the upstairs lab and walking back and forth. Just a stupid day where nothing made sense.

But it's over now and I'm home and gonna go smoke a cigar and go to bed.

End of an era for the family yesterday. Although we shut down operations on the dairy farm in 1989, there were many machines dad just couldn't part with.

When he passed, mom didn't want anything to change. About a month ago, mom agreed to an auction of the farm equipment. That was yesterday.

Watching the end of an era brought a flood of memories ranging from smiles to some of the darkest days of my life. Just sat and stared as everything left the property.

The meloncholy to relief ratio was 40\60. Today, its 25\75.

Like being turned into a newt- it will get bet-tah.

That would be tough. OTOH, it's good to know the equipment will again be working.

Yes. Ironically, when I learned one of the tractors was headed to Wyoming, it made me feel good. I'ts probably 5 hours on it over the last 10 years. Now it gets to go for a ride out west and play with other machines!

The Inner Kid in me (which isn't far from the surface) felt warmly happy at the thought.

Happy indeed.

Estate auctions are often hard on the family. Things they value might sell for a paltry sum while junk sells for a ridiculous price.

Happy Saturday fellas

Looks like I caught whatever sickness is going around. Also, exceptional timing as my PhD dissertation defense is on Monday. Hoping and praying this goes away before then.

I'm actually getting stuff done today. Running on fumes, but.....

-Dog walked.
-Pedaled the bike down to the shop for its free breaking service and back. About 13 miles round trip.
-Did the mR. joNeS Two Step for about an hour- crushing aluminum cans.
-Ran the gas out of the snowblower. Mother Nature suggests if there is any snow the first half of the month, it is less than three inches.
-Got the lawnmower running.

Let's goooooooooooo!

I ordered a bunch of model train stuff for my kid. There's 4 boxes on a shelf in the basement but he has to earn them.

Told him he could have a box if he mowed today. I ran the edges and the ditches and then he took over. He did half and halfassed that half I had to go back over all of it. Told him he doesn't get train stuff for not doing his job. He said it's too hard. I said no payment for a job not done.

While I was re-mowing the lawn the engine suddenly died. It fired right back up when I pressed the brake down but died with my foot off the brake. I'd already bypassed the seat safety switch just a few days after I bought it, but I tested that and it was still right. I removed the brake switch and jumpered the connection to tell the mower the brake is on. Fired up and finished mowing. So the seat switch, reverse switch, and now brake switch are all bypassed.

Threw the generator in my trailer and took it out back. Had to use my big drill to put a bunch of holes in several stumps I need gone. Poured potassium nitrate into the holes and then soaked with water. Never tried it before but it's supposed to accelerate decay and make it easier to burn out after a few months. We'll see. I've tried the rental stump grinders and they're too underpowered and slow and I'm not paying the stump guy $500 to do it.

Let us know how that goes. I've experimented with several store bought stump remover chemicals.

Right now I'm trying rock salt in the stump of an old apple tree I cut down. Pretty good sized stump for an apple tree--maybe 8 inches??

I read about using rock salt somewhere online but idk if it works...

And you are the MacGyver of small engines.
