I had to sign paperwork at USNA acknowledging that certain career paths might be out of the question for me because of my height. Aviation was a big question (no sense flying if, should you ever have to eject, your legs would be chopped off at the knees when exiting the aircraft). I spent one night on a submarine and couldn't go anywhere.
My first CO on a ship was 6'7". About the only ship CO in the Navy taller than I am.
