gater, I guess I can sympathize with your frustration as a BoSox fan. I mean, in your lifetime, unless you are at least 82 years old, you've never seen your team win a World Series! 1918 was the last Series the BoSox won. Even the Yawkey family is giving up on them, the BoSox are on the auction block right now for the highest bidder. I'll put in an auto-bid for them at $20, I'll probably win ! 😉 You think I don't know that Buckner lost the series for the BoSox in '86? C'mon now. As far as money goes, the Yanks have nothing to worry about. Their merchandise is the best-selling item in sports history and the House that Ruth built (LMAO, former BoSox pitcher!) is almost always at full capacity with ticket holders. Why do the Yankees win? Because they are the ONLY TEAM in baseball. No huge salaried "superstars", but a real TEAM, not a group of overpayed individuals wearing the same jersey. Yanks are the dynasty because of TEAMWORK (and yes, Torre is a member of the team, not just the manager). The Doc Gooden comment is a bit off-key, don't you think? I mean, we didn't even really use the washed up ex-Mets pitcher (p.s. I'll throw ex-Met Daryl Strawberry in there too). gater, next time, don't assume I don't know what I'm talking about, you'll save yourself embarrassment that way 😉

Embarassment? From what? I'll admit more than most sox fans: I am jealous of the constant winning. 25% of the world championships this century is truly amazing. But to rejoice for a team of bums just because they win is not good for the sport. As for no superstars, then why the HIGHEST payroll in MLB? Also, if they're so great, why don't they fill the stadium during the regular season of this 3 year stretch of WS Rings? Because NO ONE CARES! You know it, too. That's why you choose to belittle the other teams rather than savor the victory. Don't worry, though. You are not alone. MOST Yankee fans go for the jugular rather than preach from the heart.

Obviously, this thread will never end. Especially because I have to dispute all the outlandish comments and downright mistakes you make in your argument. For more information on baseball in the U.S. go to www.majorleaguebaseball.com. After you've visited there, maybe we can have a discussion. As far as the validity of my being a Yankees fan, I was born and raised in the Bronx (Throggs Neck) so I was BORN a Yankee fan, and THANK GOD! The one year I had season tickets was back in 87, and the fact that I went to those games back then and STAYED a Yankee fan through it all, shows I'm no bandwagon fan. This will be my last post on this subject (I hope), so let's go back to cigars, where I actually respect your opinion and hold it in pretty high regard 😉

Awwww...Just when it was gettin good! I am glad to see that you're a real fan. I can only get passionate with those who stick by the teams in thick and thin. Criticizm is OK when the team deserves it, however, and it is good to be objective. For myself, I am a diehard Pats fan (season ticket through good seasons and bad), Red Sox fan, and to a lesser degree a Bruins fan (they've been terrible). I am a fair weather Celtics fan, because I don't enjoy the NBA as much, but is was fun back in the 80's with Bird and company. As for our thread (or as I prefer to call it: "love fest") I don't need a web site to confirm facts. Which one do you contest? Highest payroll? Lowest rating? Low attendance? Can't deny any of these. But I still regard Torre as best post season manager in my lifetime. He is awesome and a class act to boot. Now, I think I'll have a smoke...

I know what it's like to love teams that just don't win. I'm a die-hard Eagles fan. Pats are my #2 team. Although the XFL didn't start yet, I'm gonna root for the NY/NJ Hitmen 😉 The NBA bores me unless I'm at the game, in which case, I'm a Nets fan. In NHL, I'm a Cappies fan, Rangers are my #2 team, Bruins #3. I was at the game in MSG to watch the Rangers pound the Bruins 5-1 on Sunday 🙂

Haven't been to MSG yet. Went to the Collesium once to watch the B's beat the Islanders. I live at the meadowlands. Always get lucky and get tix to Pats/Jets and Pats/Giants. The birth of my son last june prevented a Yankee Stadium visit. So I get to watch NY fans as well as Boston fans. I'll tell you later who has the "edge".
