Nothing like coming into a month-old discussion with a couple of thoughts that should've been offered two weeks ago ... but, here goes anyway ... LOL

Let's assume for a moment that Fuente sells OpusX at the same price to all dealers (although I'm sure that's not the case) ... should that mean the retail price will be the same at all dealers? ...

Not at all ... in addition to the taxes varying widely from one area to another, a cigar store in NYC, Chicago or San Francisco does not have the same overhead as a cigar store in a suburb of those same cities ... they're gonna have to mark that Opus up more, just to have the same net profit ...

I don't know the taxes in other states well enough to make a direct comparison, but it's safe to say that the price of any cigar at a store in downtown SF with their high overhead and the ridiculous CA taxes is gonna be substantially higher than the price of the same cigar at a suburban store in a low-tax state ...
even within SF, the downtown store has far higher overhead than a store in one of the neighborhoods, let alone the 'burbs ...

And, after all that is said and done, there's still the question of supply ... and since there is limited supply of a cigar for which there is a high demand, the price will remain high ...

Are they worth it? ... to a great many, it would seem. For me, I think they're one of a number of very good cigars, most of which sell for a lower price. And, given my budget, that translates into my smoking more of those other cigars and fewer of the OpusX ... and frankly, I'm OK with that.

I just got prices from local store and they were # 2 that I got were 18.00a stick. The Double Corono the next step up was 19.00 a stick. Robusto are 12.50 a stick. Fuente Fuente is 12.25 a stick. # 4 is 10.50 a stick and the Reservo Chateau is 16.25 a stick

Pretty expensive but not to bad for a special occasion smoke. Like I said in anearlier email the first # 2 I had was harsh. But the next one I had was great.

When I call the store and tod him he said if another was like that to let him no. He said that sometimes happens to handrolled Cigars. Why I know that doe happen. It irritates me to pay 18 bucks for a lemon

All I can say to anybody who has had a bad experience with an OpusX is that whomever got it to you did not take care of it. It's like somebody driving a Ferrari for 100,000 miles, never giving it an oil change, breaking the clutch, and then handing it to you for a test drive. If it is too humidified, it won't draw. If it's not humidified enough, it will crack. It's a cigar, not a toy. A good place that sells Fuentes will sell Humidipaks too. I pay the $10 or whatever they charge for the zip lock humidifying bags. For me, it's like insurance. I leave them there for about a month or so, not in my humidor. They come out perfect right from the bag. I like it 'cause you don't have to add water. Do they make any nice humidors where you don't have to add water? Maybe just plug it in and it sets the perfect humidification. If so, how much? If not, somebody please invent one!

I've had a few robustos that I was not very impressed with (smoked them within a month of buying) but all the rest, especially the perfexion X, #4, xXx and #5 were all top notch. Like I said earlier, I only smoke these 3-4 times a year, so all mine have a minimum of 8-10 months on them when I smoke them. I try to keep at least that long a rotation on them. I've not tried an Opus just off the shelf--probably because the first time I did, I was not as impressed. Their quality can change from release to release. Notice next time that one size may be darker in color than the rest. Grab a few of these. In the last batch, the thin panatelas were very dark while the others had wrappers that were splotchy (dark and light). IMHO, there is simply no substitution for aging your smokes, but to each their own.
