aol has got to go. 70% loss of download with dsl. spam inducer not eliminator. nothing there that can't be found at msn. $330. pissed away each year, that's probably 600 to 700 cigars. note to self: follow advise given by many poster, don't include the @ or the . when listing email address and never fill out any survey's. set schedular for adaware and trace every day. use popup killer. set zone alarm on high except when surfing porno sites. always complain about shipping costs (exception cbid), usually the sellers will credit it back to your credit card.

Rick --- MSN is pure garbage also! Find another ISP that is not a COMMERCIAL ISP (AOL, Prodigy, MSN, earthlink, etc.)

NetZero is free (if you want ads taking up half your screen) or $9.95 a month (no ads) ... for dial-up.

CIGARS! O.K., got that out of the way. Juno is the sister of netzero and is also $9.95/mo. You'll have a shorter address (@juno.COM vs. @netzero.NET) and you'll get the same service. I had netzero for awhile and dug it. I would still have it but I upgraded to my local Pacific Bell (SBC) DSL. A friend of mine still uses netzero with no problems.

P.S. If you're considering DSL, before you sign up be sure to ask what your minimum connection speed should be. If your fairly close to the server, you should get over 1 Gig in which case it is worth it. I recently moved from my old place where I was getting 1.3 Gigs down and 133M up. Now I get 312M down and 50 something up. 😞 Effectively, it's still much faster than dial up. Since time is money, the extra $25/mo. (over netzero) is worth it for anyone who uses the net enough.

CABLE. Unless you're getting a T1 delivered to your house is the ONLY way to go! Provided you can get one!

Doc may be right. It depends again on 1. whether or not it's available in your area and 2. How many other folks will be on the same line that could effect your speeds. Your local provider should be able to answer both questions. Then you can compare the sitch with your projected DSL speeds and dial up.

I have AOL-DSL but checked out SBC-DSL I liked it but unfortunately it's not available in Pennsylvania. JonR

Cable is by far the fastest broadband for the everyday user. I had to go with DSL because I coudn't get Broadband cable at the time. If you need any information Rick, go to www.broadbandreports.com. They have all the information, plus a bunch of tweaking and fix tools to use.

sketch - the whole myth of how many people are on the same line is used by DSL providers as a marketing ploy. It is only true if your cable provider is a dope! If you couldn't tell I work for Comcast and know a lot about the products and the industry...

I don't have any regrets, and get on average 1300kbps down and 147kbps up!

I have comcast and MSN(crap) and as soon as my 3 years of payback to MSN ends (promotional deal with desk top-mistake) I will go to Net zero or juno.
