Had a successful Turkey season this year, and wanted to share this pic with everybody. This is really a beautiful bird. Spent most of the morning trying to call him away from somes hens he was with.

Spent a lot of other days just chasing and admiring these wonderful birds, they are truly one of the hardest animals I have ever tried to hunt.

They are getting thicker here in Indiana and i have tried the last 2 years with no luck.

cayman- 11 inch beard, 1 1/4 inch spurs. My biggest so far.

Merlin, I spend most years without bagging one!! This is only my third in 8 years. I just love getting out and trying to call them in.

This year was the best so far, the next day I called in 3 Gobblers and my father-in-law shot one with a 10 1/2 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. That was just as exciting as shooting my own!!!

What part of Indiana are you from? I live in Northern KY.

Can you imagine if they were our national bird? They almost were! Picture a pissed off turkey on the front of a war plane! Or a football team called "The War Turkeys"... A young lady preparing for the beach by getting "A bald turkey?"

I live north of Indianapolis,but do most of my hunting in southern Indiana.Oh by the way i am not discouraged and do really enjoy the hunt.Got a couple in close this year but just couldnt get them to step out in the open.These bad boys are a hundred times harder to get than a whitetail!!

Nice bird Mike. Did you get it with the bow or gun? I am new to hunting. I bow hunted whitetail for the first time this year. I shoot a Stickbow with cedar arrows. I saw and had a shot on a large doe and I choked. Oh well first time jitters. I feel great just being outside in the woods. I know hunters that hunt for years and never even see a deer much less have a shot at one. So I feel blessed.
I was going spring turkey hunting this year but the need for back surgery kinda put a damper on that. Last spring only two birds were taken with the bow. I know it’s a challenge but, as you know it’s not always about the kill, it’s about being there. Great Job

Nice turkey. Where did you bag it? I hunt in Grant and Southern Kenton Counties every deer season. I will have to find a different farm this year as my friend is selling his.

I have yet to try turkey hunting, but have always wanted to. Need to find a job first to be able to afford a new gun.

I think the Turkey is an awesome bird, but I don't think it would have made for a good national symbol. Not much intimidation.

I definitely agree with ya, merlin and stickbow. Just being out there is what its all about.

- hunts WV every year .... always have been able to get my limit on Turkey & Deer ... grew up in those mountains - know the area really well ... kinda funny how much (as a kid) you don't appreciate the time and patience of your father teaching you all the caveats of the sport. For the past few years (7 or 😎, I've been only using a .22 rifle for Turkey hunting ... hopefully that's legal - I did call and ask and was told "yes" - and it saves me the trouble of spitting out lead pellets at dinner.

I know - I'm homesick .... LOL

Nice bird. Not a turkey hunter myself but a lot of my friends are. I stick with deer and small game. Love pheasant. Gets harder and harder evry year to find places to hunt.

i'm not a hunter, but i do understand the sport. either you hunt the turkey or buy it from a store that has cut it's throat and hung it upside down to bleed.

did you at least wait until he had serviced one female? seems a shame to shoot him before he got laid.

You might want to read the hunting regulations for whatever state you hunt turkey in again. In every state that I've lived in you cannot hunt turkey with a rifle no matter what caliber it is. I have a friend that is a game warden and ignorance of the law is not exception. You could lose your rifle, your vehicle used to get to your hunting land, and any other hunting supplies you have with you.

It was a week into the season and in the afternoon, so I'm pretty sure he got some. Besides he was walking kinda funny like his legs were a little tired from all the entertaining he had been doing!!! Ha ha.

Lots of these birds in Wisconsin

Nice Bird!! No luck this season up in the Catskills of NY. Didn't hear or see anything! I did walk up upon a nice white tail only about 10' away. It was a good 5 seconds before he looked up and saw me. Plenty of time for a shot.....too bad I don't have that kind of luck during deer season!!! Oh by the way, the Mayflies were terrible this year....stand still for 5 seconds and they were all over you!!!
