Is it just me, or are there others out there getting tired of the whole square box press fad? Things like the Fidalgo with almost 90 degree angles, and Perdomo's that are hard to close you lips around (boy, if I only had a nickel every time a woman has said that to me ). Slight box press is fine, but we gotta put an end to these square sticks. How about a protest?

I cant say that I care for the box pressed cigars either. I'm a big Toraño fan, but will pass up some of those gars because of the box press.

I do, however, like the Trilogy triangle press. Those are some good cigars.

No problem here ... square or rectangular is OK, but I'm not wild about those that've been pressed almost flat ...

The Toranos are too damn flat, look like a small 2 X 10 or something resembling a plank. Do not mind the box shape on Onyx Reserve, but had rather have my cigars round.

I would definitely be happier if the box presses I like were reverted to standard. I usually roll them into round as a smoke 'em especially if the draw is tight and this usually improves it. I sometimes wonder if tight draw is a side effect.

I will still buy the ones I like.

I've found that I like the box pressed better then the round. I hold the cigar between my teeth. Thus the flat cigar molds well with my flat teeth. In order to hold the round cigars I have to bite down on them.

Won a bid on some Gurkha Regents that were as flat as a tongue depressor. Good tasting smoke, but it was just wrong. Just couldnt do it. Now I dont mind a Punch Rare Corojo or an Astral TVS but dont flatten the Bast@#ds. But I do the Sketcha thing as well and roll them aound a bit while Im smoking them.

How the hell are you gonna roll out (into semi round) a Carlos Torano (great smokes)? The thing would probably crack or something. Agree, will buy the ones I like, but steer clear of the ones that look like tounge depressors or diving boards!

An Exodus '59 Torp with too firm a draw rounded out and opened up for me about 1/2 way down. It held up fine but I wish it didn't start out so flat. I won't be buying any boxes of these any time soon.

I have no complaints about the likes of a Padron 3000 and such. More square tubed than flat with rounded corners. A little variety is nice, it's just the flat ones that bug me.

As long as I like the flavor of the cigar I don't really care if it's round or box pressed.

Boxed pressed,round,flat,etc,as long as the cigar is good,it just doesn't matter. X

Actually, I believe that box pressing had it's origins in economic considerations. Something about being taxed (import?) by the box, rather than weight or numbers of cigars. Therefore more box-pressed cigars could be fit into one box than round ones. I tend to like them. To me the tobacco seems to marry/ferment better. May be my imagination but it appeals to me. One caveat; if a box-pressed cigar is "plugged" you can pretty much toss it in the trash, in my experience. I've been able to salvage a plugged round cigar but never a box-pressed one. I also like the way the box-pressed cigar feels between my fingers. Just my thoughts......
