Think I'll stay on the sand.

Isn't that a dolphin or porpoise? They surf all the time just down the block from my house.

I'd say dolphin, the dorsal fin is curved and the nose is pointy like a bottle.

The crap in my swim trunks would say shark.

I'm with Mean. Used to see 3-4ft sand sharks in the surf quite frequently around the mouth of the Brazos at Freeport. They were definitely not shy and could care less that I was fishing. Didn't stay out long enough but to cast and walk back to sit in my chair and throw down another suds. Wish I smoked cigars back then.

I've been whale watching a few times. We always came across Dolphins every time. That looks too big to be a Dolphin or Porpoise.... :>)

Most certainly a fake picture. However, I have seen sharks do this on the Discovery channel Shark Week. This is without a doubt a shark in this picture. Too big, and sleek to be a dolphin. MK

I mean dolphin....LOL! Slim...you save me a lot of research!

Today's lesson: Shark dorsal fins have nearly straight edges, while dolphins have well-curved dorsal fins.

Cool pic. The water might distort the size, but using the surfer as a scale, that looks like a bottlenose dolphin - the largest species of dolphin reaching lengths of 4m (13ft).

Every surfer knows that if there's a porpoise around then the waters are shark free.

They're hated enemies, and 9 out of 10 times the shark loses!

The tailfin is another giveaway.

I maintain that unless this pic is altered, that aint no dolphin.

If you don't live near or visit the ocean often, of course you'd crap your pants...but then again, you probably wouldn't be out there surfing and up close with the dolphin...

We see dolphins on a regular basis around here...curved dorsal fin gives it away...it's a real treat to be able to be that close to them. They seem to love to ride the waves, just beneath the surface.

Being a SCUBA diver, I've made CERTAIN to know what the shark fins look like!!!

Been out in the surf fishin off east getties late in the evening when a porpoise passed 3 feet in front of me. Infrequent or frequent to the coast, you crap you pants.

I've had to laugh almost to the point of drowning when wade fishing and the Dolphins come in and some tourist will yell SHARK.

I was fishing a jetty around St. Petersburg Fl. when a Manatee came swimming down the beach. One of the funniest things I saw was watching the swimmers flee for their lives from one of the worlds gentlest creatures! Swam right in front of me and of course I had left the camera at the hotel! @#$%!

The "finger of friendship" can be as intimidating as any jaw full of teeth...
