Just wondering how many of you purge your cigars? I do on occasion, but only if the cigar starts to get bitter or harsh. What say ye all? X

that's odd ... I read the question and after thinking about it for a few seconds, I realized that I subconsciously do that all the time and wondered why ... it IS part of what I habitually do when smoking, but I have no idea how, why or when I began doing so ... I THINK it's something that's related to the pipe smoking I did back in college and for some years afterward ...

That's gonna be one of those things that really bugs the *&%$ outta me now ... thanks for bringing it up ... LOL

I'm more in to bingeing than purging...

Purge when necessary. Last nights' smoke needed purging.

It's the only way to smoke a Lone Wolf. Just purge it.

Purge? As in PUSH air through the stogie instead of DRAWING into the mouth? If so, yeah, I do that whenever I've let a stoge go a minute longer than necessary between puffs and I have to take multiple puffs to sustain the cherry. After that puffing, it tastes nasty, so I "purge".

I didn't know that it was called purging... But I also do it. Sometimes just to get the cherry going again.

Go Stars! --- purging is when you blow air through the cigar while keeping a flame at the 'cherry' ... once the flame is burning, you can take the flame away ... and it will continue to burn.

You will see a multi-color flame shoot out of the foot, almost like a flame thrower, and it will be a really cool array of colors that eventually will turn into a yellow flame ... and then it will go out.

What is happening here ... is you are burning off the accumulated gasses and tars that build up the length of the cigar as it is being smoked.

ajeroth --- in order to purge your cigar, you already have to have a good cherry going ... 😉

Thanks,
I'll try it tonight with a flame to it.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I have to develop a modified smoking technique to keep in synch with this cool group.

I make it a habit, not waiting for the cigar to get funky. When I saw the thread title I was reminded of guys at the H.A.R.D.#4 herf, who power-smoked fresh JdN
Antanatos until they hurled. And lit up another.

I can't get the hang of it. Every time I start blowing through the cigar hard enough to try to get a flame the lighter goes out. Ohh well. They smoke all right anyway. I'll have to wait till I meet an experienced smoker in person.

The cigar must not be that bad then ...

Once the foot is shooting out flames ... you take the lighter away, and if there is enough 'build-up', it will stay lit all by itself until all the gasses are burnt off.

It's qite the site ... the flame will be multi-colored, kind of like a mini Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) ... and then will go to just yellow before it will run out of fuel.
