Okay...okay....I know I'm whining. Had a Hellish day at work...tried to relax with a snifter of brandy and a cigar. Tried smoking a couple of my "go to" cigars (a 1959 Exedous and a Perdomo 2, both in the torpedo shape) and damned if they didn't both tunnel on me. I've read on the post about folks who have "leveled out" the burn (this problem). Is there really anything you can do, other than let the cigar go out, (a real pisser, as they are not going to taste as good (to me) on the second lighting), cut the entire cigar above the burn (using Xitar cutter) and relighting? You are being subjected to a lot of frustration on my part, I know, but by God I am going to try another (an Ashton VSG) and I believe if it tunnels I may go postal (Damn! This is suppose to be relaxing!!!). Any benefit from experience/advice would be greatly appreciated, especially now.

just touch it up with the torch as you go if you notice it happening. no problem.

As I'm smoking a cigar ... I keep an eye on it. I don't smoke it to fast either, because that can cause tunneling.

As it's burning ... if it starts to tunnel ... I just hold my torch to the part that isn't buring as fast as the rest.

That usually takes care of it ...

Uneven burning cigars or cigars that tend to "canoe" may be the result of several circumstances.
1) The quality of the wrapping
2) The quality of the wrapper leaf itself
3) Too much moisture in the wrapper or in the cigar
4) The wrapper leaf was too thick, a common attribute of maduro wrappers.
Since at least one of the cigars you mentioned mentioned was smoking a Maduro, it
was most likely a combination of 3 & 4: a little too much moisture in the leaf and a little too thick to burn evenly.

As to correcting the uneven burn, aside from cutting and relighting, or letting it go out and relighting, I have had some success with using a razor blade to score the wrapper on the side that is canoeing even with the other side. (do this while it is still lit) Then peal the wrapper off and try relighting that section. Ultimately though if a cigar it going to burn unevenly there are times when nothing will help.
