I like the punches best, but am I wrong and why?

That's like saying, I've tried blondes, brunettes, and red heads, I like blondes the best, am I wrong? And why? Smoke what you like, like what you smoke. Cut um or punch um. Personal choice, for me, I like the Swiss Army knife cutter, but a punch is good on a big ring. I also have guillotines. They’re all good… But I married a brunette, so I guess they’re best 🙂 Although, I’ve had some nice blondes too 🙂 🙂 🙂

Just figured that there was some rhyme or reason to why there was cutters and punches, just that I didn't know the answer.

I prefer a V-cut on square-pressed cigars, I dunno....more flavor.

Punch for those churchills.

Xikar for everything else.

It just depends on what you like and on the cigar.

A v-cut or a punch are both good because they leave more of the head intact, which makes the wrapper less likely to come off and leaves that nice, rounded cap, which I think feels good in your mouth (oh God, I know Godfather's gonna post below this now with some perverted comment because I just said that).

The straight cut, like a guillotine, double blade, or scissor provides, is better from a tighter cigar, giving you more space to draw air through, but can also make the wrapper unravel if you cut too far or the cap peels off.

So for me...I usually go for the straight cut, but if I get a cigar that I know has a very easy draw (like an Indian Tabac Limited Reserve, for example), I like a v-cut or a punch.

It all depends on the stogie.

Keep in mind ... the smaller the opening, the hotter (more condensed and concentrated) the smoke is going to be ... but less of it.

The larger the opening, the cooler the smoke will be, and there will me more volumes of it ...

For me it depends on the size of the cigar as well as portability. Advantages and disadvantages to both. I use a scissors cut a lot because I have one of those Colibris that have retractable scissors that I can have with me along with the lighter. Sometimes tars can accumulate in the punch and v-cut openings and give it a bitter taste (usually in smaller ring guages, in my experience). When I'm home I use an xikar cutter which does well on almost any size cigar. Just a matter of preference, really.
