I Spoke with Mike @ CBid this morning and we got to talking about being in the Military... he asked me what branch I was in... I told him Air Force... he asked me if I had ever been to Pope AFB.. I said nope but worked with allot of folks from Pope in Kuwait and Saudi.... I asked him if he was stationed their and he say's, Na he was in the Army.. and that he see's how us Air Force folks had the Better Accommodations then them in the Army.. So I told him I would post some of our Hotel Stay's Pic's on the boards... this one is the Luxurious 10 man Tent with all the Benny's of a front porch.. it come's with Air Conditioning and all the Dust you would want to Breath in a Day... try 90 to 120 day's of Lovely Green Grass and the Beach is Marvelous!!! rest room's with full showers (6 each) are located just minutes away... "about 100 yrds on a full sprint in the morning, to unload that morning sensation" and if you forget your shaving kit on the initial sprint... well your daily exercises are complete before you jump into your uniform of the day!!! and don't forget your bottled water to brush your teeth with... or you'll defenantly get a one way ticket to visit the Doc!!!

This pic is of the front of our Luxury hotel in Kuwait in 1997 at that time their was only about 900 folks on this location... in 1996 we only had about 450 total Americans at the same... TCN's (Third Country Nationals) did the cooking for us all the time...

This must have been Al Jaber (about an hour from Kuwait City)... I was there from Aug-Nov 96. And yes, it S-U-C-K-E-D!!!

Hey ajeroth, you musta came in with DM or Shaw??? we pulled out in June 96 and DM was just coming in then.... Main Street and the Camels Hump... I was back there last year 2002 and it was housing at that time 5400 folks... in 96 there was only about 450 so it's grown quite abit... the main attraction was watching EOD dig up and destroy UXO's!!! we got to go out with them a few times... and even in 2002 they was digging and blowing up ****!!! went from an (Inflatable Raft) Swimming Pool to a nice inground... and although the Trailers are falling apart they housed myself and 60 others fairly well... with 24 showers and ****ters inside Facilities... Only had to run down the Hall LMAO!!!!!

The place became my Second home away from home!!!

Poor guys! Try being up to butt in snow and then it starts freezing rain operating a RATT rig on some German mountain next to the Alps with Soviet cars snooping down your back!

We couldn't set up tents because they wanted us mobile too. A crew of 4 on a GMC truck with MRE's and engine melted snow to drink. Rank had it priviliges though...I got to sleep in the cab of the truck!


Just kiddin', although the above is true. Military life has its moments. Doing THAT kind of stuff seems like fun now, but it sure didn't THEN!

LOL, nice pic, looks sorta like the conditions we had in Panama while guarding refugees out in the jungle. Take away the sand and add in steaming jungle, could be almost the same.

I'd take that cold compaired to the 110 degree's by 9 am and only climbing as the day wore on... you can always add more clothes and covers... and God knows the Military has the best equipment available!!! but ya can only get so Naked to cool off!!!! LMAO!!!

when I was there one of our Guy's went out in the Jungle with the Panamain Indian's spent about 3 days with them... said he would never wonder off like that again!!! they scared the hell out him... he did come back with some Panamain Habanero Peppers though and now makes his own Hot Sauce and sell's it!!!

I was there in '95 when all the cuban refugees were swarming into Florida, we set them up in camps across Panama. They rioted for a few day and sent us in to quell them, not exactly fun, but it was an experience. We used to train right next to the canal and would watch the cruise ships go by, we even got flashed once by a beauty that was sun-bathing on the deck!

ah he was their during the Panama Invasion... hey ever go fishing in one of them lil johnboats?? the guid that took us parked us by a sign where there was unexploded Ordenance marked off LoL... that was a great trip it's a damn shame the US pulled out of the country!!!

I wish I could have done some fishing while I was there. We had one, yes ONE, day off while I was there (6 months). Seems our Battalion CO thought we would go into town and cause trouble. Us? The 82nd airborne? Nah...we always played nice, until we started drinking...

yea I could see that not happening... when I was there in 98... 7 of us piled into a Taxi... went downtown... got out walked about a block an here was this Female Friend... one of the guy's How Much.. she looked him up an down.. say's 30 bucks... he say's ok how much for all 7... she thought for a bit... ran her tounge through her teeth and say's 45... we all about died laughing and headed on up the street on our Mission... "strip club" we walked in at dusk and staggered back out at Dawn... 20 bucks all the beer you could drink mixed drinks also... plus I paid 10 bucks for a nice HDM Churchel... Never Seen the Same woman on Stage twice!!! Totally unbelievable event!!!

But I wouldn't dare go back to the country without the Military being there any longer!!!
