I'm trying my first Salsa. I'm just about an inch to it but my first impression is very positive. It has the body of a full sail, but the flavor seems somehow spicier? The full sails are great smokes, but my personal description of them would be very full bodied, but rich. Interesting... After the first inch and a half, this cigar is developing a richer character. It's still spicy, but the first half inch, I really noticed the spice, now, it's still there, but it's mellowed a bit. It's still very full bodied, but getting richer as I smoke it down a bit. Some minor burn problems that corrected with my torch, but nothing major.

This turkey is roasting ... with a Salsa also! I think this one has definitely taken the top spot in the Bucanero line ... and that spicy 'kick', I believe ... comes the the 'criollo' wrapper ... YUM!

oh my... oh my... This cigar is nothing short of incredible...

I've just noticed the aesthetics as I've been smoking it. It "feels good" in your hand. It has the right texture and fullness, the construction is impeccable, the draw effortless, but not under filled, just a slight tug releases the flavor.

I rolled it between my fingers, bringing it to and from draws in slow motion, enjoying each and every aspect of this cigar.

I noticed, it’s pressed, but not box pressed, rather, two sides are slightly flattened, and the other two opposing sides are round, an interesting shape.

Flor de Oliva Grande Cameroon (roughly a Lonsdale)
Another fine cigar by the Oliva Family (God bless them). A taste that just screams lots of aging, with strong cedar and a little coffee flavor, with the subtle spice only a Cameroon wrapper can give. This one would go great with a cup of espresso. Medium to full, and great construction to boot.

Punch Oscuro Rothschild
I was a little skeptical at first, but turned out to be a good one for after dinner. As always, the same Punch pepperieness and heavy body. Hell, not even a shot of Maker's Mark could kill the flavor of this one!

Yes... 'criollo'. This cigar almost has an identity crisis. I've had criollos before, and they typically have, how shall I say? A more "natural" flavor (as opposed to a maduro flavor, you know what I mean). This cigar seems to have a foot in both realms. It definitely has the spice I identified attributed to that crilollo wrapper, but the overall character and body are more reminiscent of a maduro. As I'm smoking it down, (clenched between my teeth now) alternately puffing, clamping, and blowing through the cigar, I get the occasional mouthful of smoke exhaled through the nose that has that "pleasant burn" in the nostrils, like salt water? lasting only a moment, then just the flavor.

The "Burn" as in like say some other cigars made in a communist country in the northern hemisphere?

A dark Habano's Criollo wrapper with a slight red glow that surrounds very fine Nicaraguan, Dominican and Honduras fillers.

I believe that the 'Salsa' is the first line in which Bucanero has used Honduran tobacco in bringing to life one very smooth, full-bodied 'plus' cigar.

I'm nearing the home stretch now. The cigar has continued to intensify in flavor and character and I'm noticing the spice more now as it the beginning, however, not a hint of harshness. I've had occasion to set this cigar down several times to go in, then come back after several minutes, it required no relight, and maintained it's burn "resting" for several minutes. When I came in and leaned over the couch to see my wife and baby before she put him up, she said “pew!” I said, oh but honey, I know I smell strong, but it’s REALLY a good cigar 🙂

Hummmmmmm, DrMaddVibe ... I wonder if that would have any correlation with that 'funny little island' that is printed on the band and inside box label ...

They could've called it "Ché". That would've frosted ol' Mr. olive drab green!

I'm sensing the heat from the cherry now. And the smoke begins to rise in to the eyes, causing the characteristic squinting from the smoke of a fine cigar being smoked down "too far". Farther than it was intended. This cigar is like an old friend at this point. One that you haven't seen in too long, and you're delaying the ultimate goodbye because you don't want to see them go.

Ok, I just finished "my nub". The smoke from it is still wafting up from the ashtray in my face as I type this...

I must say, I will own a box of these fine cigars. This is what it's all about. We smoke cigars, not to pass the time, not because we're hooked like cigarette smoker (not bashing, just an observation). We smoke for enjoyment, AND relaxation.

I must say, this cigar was the epitome of both. I truly "enjoyed" myself and the cigar. It was very pleasurable. It lasted 1 and a half hours, and one of the main things I noticed/observed throughout was how damn much I was really relaxing and enjoying this fine cigar. This is what it's all about. This is why we smoke cigars...

For comparison sake, now I’m going to dig in the ploomidor and get out a full sail. The first from a box I bought 5 months ago. I’ve been saving them, and I feel this is the time to get one out and smoke it!

I went to a Tinidad tasting this evening and had a Beli with some Montecristo Rum. The rum was very nice but overpowered the Trini. I found it rather mild and uneventful. After the tasting wer and I along with a couple of others went next door for a couple of beers. I fired up a Sasla, at last a cigar with real flavor. I gave one to wer and he chickened out and decided to save it for later for fear that it may be too strong, LOL @ Bill.

I also failed to win the Trinidad Humidor, what a beauty.

Nothing makes me feel better than sitting back, a good drink in one hand (my prefered drink for cigars being coffee) and a premium smoke in the other hand, watching that smoke waft through the air in dreamy clouds, and taking a few hours to sit back and enjoy all that life offers.

I need to get me some Bucaneros. They seem almost like a cult here! I here people talk about Full Sails and Salsas and all these. Are these different lines in the Bucanero brand or different sizes of Bucaneros?

What kind of Bucanero do you all recommend?
