Good day, I recently purchased a couple of Gurkha Platinum cigs, but have yet to brake the wax seal, so nice looking. Anyway, can I get some advice on what to expect when I do torch it up. Thanks. Also, I have four humidors at home (I handcraft them for a living) but I do have a large tupperware box with humidifiers attached for when I have extra boxes of cigars and no room in the other humidors, so my question is, should I leave the cellophane on the box or remove it, or does it even matter? Sorry for rambling on.

SP: I don't know what some of the others in here do but If the Cello on the box is in good shape when I recieve the box I just leave it on and if it is ragged and damaged then I remove it. I have not been able to tell that there is any difference in the cigars by doing this thought there may be and I just don't have a educated enough taste to pick it up..But in any case I do store them in one of my humidors until they are called upon.. Me personally, when dealing with sealed glass tubes, its kinda bad to leave them in. Though some cigar makers claim an airtight glass tube (like one sealed with wax, like you have) will keep it fresh as the day it was made, I don't believe that bunch of BS. It'll still dry out.

For example, a friend of mine (Godfather) paid over $30 for a gift box of three Maker's Mark Cigars, as sealed in waxed glass tubes. When he opened up one and smoked it, it burned hot and terrible.

I would break the seal on those Gurkhas so they can get some air and moisture. But since they're aromatically flavored with cognac, I suggest you store them in a seperate humidor from your others, else all your 'gars will smell like them in a few days.

Yes,they are the Gurkha Platinums ones that have Louis XIV Cognac flavors in them. I guess I will look at it this way, if I open the seal (wax), and they burn hot and terrible, I'll just chuck the cigar and use the tube as a flask for my Louis XIV Cognac.

Just take them out of the tube and put them in a tupperador for a week or so to be humidified.

I take the plastic off the outside of the boxes and crack the seal so it can "breathe". Young cigars will put off ammonia and maybe some other things as they cure/age. I’m not saying it wrong to leave it on, but I follow the open box rule. Peel the plastic, crack the box, take a gander at the stogies, put um to bed 🙂 Also, if God forbid you had some unwelcome house guests (beetles), you may see evidence upon investigation. I have had this happen once and thank God they didn’t set up shop in my ploomidor!!

SP, I just got some myself. I planned to keep these around and NOT break the seal. If the moisture can 'seep out' of the seal tube, than it should be able to seep back in (just science thought). I will be keeping these in a separate Tupper-dor though. Whatever you do, don't just chuck them.
I have one question for you though... Every picture I see has a Silver toned wax seal on the tube. The ones that I have received are not Silver. What color was the wax seal on your tubes?

I leave these in the tube. I recently broke one open that I have had for several momths. The cigar was a little too moist - I put it in my humi with other gars for a few days and it burned just fine. I could faintly smell cherry when I opened the humi after removing the Gurkha the smell was gone.

Purple are the Royal Salute... The most expensive of the Louis XIII series.
