This is a white spiderweb kind of substance. Could be a little bit of both. I just got it from the store today and pulled it out to find this.....
Can anyone tell?

I can't tell from that angle. I've got super sensitive equipment at my home that could detect which one it is in a matter of hours, maybe even minutes. Better send it to me for proof positive.

Looks like mold to me, but only the green mold is bad. brush it off and smoke away.

If it looks like a 'spidery web' type substance, it's mold ... does it have the little ball's on the tips of the filaments yet? Those would be the spores of future crops ...

Bloom/Plume starts out as small patches of clear crystals, then develops into a white 'powdery' substance ...

I just opened a box of Bucanero el Capitan Maddies about an hour ago and a few of the sticks looked just like that. I had it in a Sweaterdor, still wrapped in the plastic, for about 5 or 6 months.

Wiped them off and they look fine...

But I wouldn't worry about it, like someone said above, if it's not 'greenish/bluish mold', just wipe it off.

Then ... let it dry out awhile. Heck, it's a Cohiba ... so if it's got that much humidity to it, it's going to smoke like a broomstick anyway ... 😉

looks like amold toa me!!! I had something like this a year or so back this time of year on a few sticks... some I had to toss... the others I wiped off and their fine... but I also got quite a few that have plume on them... and like slim said above... plume gives them a crystil affect and little bumps to boot skin so Oily you wanna roll in it and lick it all day... Their BeauTifuL!!!! I ended up having to set my Humidifier to the center of the room to even out the moisture it sets off around the room... haven't had a problem since... and the winter months are always the toughest on regulating the moisture....

That's green Mold, early stage. If the mold has not stained the rapper, just bruch off and smoke. I have brushed off many smokes, put them back in the humi and the mold did not re-appear. If the rapper is stained, it's toast.

Thanks guys. I have seen that web site before. And it actualy had both on it I think. I just wiped it off and it looked fine. There was a picture of some short smoke a few days ago. I think they were called XXO or something. The picture showed them having a spiderweb kind of look to them. So it made me wonder.

Fuzzy usually means mold. Crystals or powder mean bloom/plume.

no web on those gars! may have just been the way the picture came out. There was a line going along the wrapper around the cigar where the leaf overlapped.

That looks like mold to me, but it can be easily wiped off. Oliva O Maduros look like that right out of the box half the time. They're fine 🙂

the cap wraps around in a spiral, the crystal is following the edge of the wrapper as it twists up. i.e., where the edge of the leaf lies against the underlying wrapper. Is that what you mean?

Robby ... that really doesn't look like crystals, but fuzz (filaments) ... Bloom/plume is not fuzzy ... but powdery ... but it looks like it's going to take a microscope to end this debate ... LOL!
