I saw Sketcha's post about his coolerdor fan and had the idea of a self-contained fan for my coolerdor. The fan is an old 12V / 900mA CPU fan wired to a Radio Shack battery pack with 4 1600mAh "AA" rechgargeable batteries.

The fan is VERY quiet. The experiment is to see how long the batteries will power the fan. I may need to go to a bigger battery pack with "C" or "D" size batteries.

Are the bearing sealed? If not the higher humidity may seize them up over time.

Will the fan speed vary depending on humidity level or just when the batteries run low? 🙂

I, personally don't think 70% is very high. In Santa Cruz ambient humidity regular climbs over 70%, sometimes over 90%. Bare metal outdoors tends to rust, but that's probably more due to the salt air.

It's worth a try, right?

The fan was originally sealed. You can see in the pic that the seal over the motor shaft is open. The guy who gave me the fan (I gave him a cigar) said I could put a drop of 3-in-1 oil on the shaft if the motor wouldn't turn.

I'll keep you posted about the experiment.
