I have asked many people about their birthday groups, and all were full, and they said to start my own. So with a little hope and luck, this message gets to start the next bday club.
Would some of the old dogs around here give me any advice on some good rules/numbers, etc.

Thanks

as far as rules , well they are simple. Send cigars on others people's birthday.

First post that you are starting a new B-Day club, just like you did. Figure out wether you want to limit the number of people's birthdays per month, i.e no more than 3 October Birthdays, etc. Also see how many people you want in the club, i.e 15 max. And lastly how many cigars should you send, i.e 2 cigars that you enjoy!

That is it, all else to do is to compile a list of participants and send it off to everyone, this is done through email.

I hope this helps!!!

Oh by the way I am not an old dog, but I hope my advice is good!!!

Ezell,

1) You want to decide how many members you want in (no more than 20). We did not limit the number of participants per month in the original birthday club, but that is not a bad idea unless you are hurting for participants.

2) Give yourself a cutoff date as to when you will start the club regardless of numbers. This separates the serious people from the casual posters.

3) Limit the number os cigars to (2). Most people will still send more than 2 cigars, but if you send any more you will break the bank for some people.

4) Put a value limit on the cigars. Some people can afford $15.00 sticks and some cannot. Decide your value early on so there is no confusion when people start sending out cigars.

5) Create an Excel worksheet with the birthdays, names, address, and cigar wish list. The wish list really helps everybody out on what a paticular person's taste is. There's no bigger disappointment when you receive a cigar that one person thinks is excellent but you really dislike.

6) Be flexible with everyone. You have to remember that life happens. Be flexible when people are late with their cigars and have the organizer be the person that make sall communications if there are questions. Some of us have had surgery, car accidents, loss of jobs, etc. that affect the club. Everyone is still receiving their cigars albeit a little late. A prime example, I still owe August and September birthdays their cigars as I had surgery and have been out of the cigar game for quite some time now. Everyone knows they will receive their cigars though.

Good luck!

First off.. Thank You coma-one and hoagie for the great advice.. People like you both make this site great.

Proposed: As for limits, 2 cigars from 10-15 people would be a great gift. As for a price limit, under 20 bucks a stick sounds pretty good. I would figure it would be up to the person sending the gifts to use their discresion. Maybe $15 is a better limit.. I dunno..

So far I have emailed the 6 people above, and will post when more info comes around.

ok.. we now have 10. as long as everyone that has posted is in, we are full. MrTelcom had a good idea to limit the gifts to 20 bucks and to limit the number of cigars to 2-4.. or for that matter 1-4. That way the type of cigar isnt limited.
What does everyone think?
