I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten hiccups while smoking a cigar. Last night as I was smoking a slightly tight 858 maddy I started to hiccup and I was wondering if there was a connection. I think this has happened to me before with tight/plugged cigars but I don't remember for sure.

Surges of nicotine are a common cause for hiccups.

The only time I ever get hiccups is if the cigar goes out ... and I relight it a little while later.

... and it happens almost every time that happens ... LOL!

This seems to happen with more full bodied smokes. Also what Slim says. When you re-light you suck more air in and eventually you will get the hiccups.

From my bio classes,I think ... hiccups are caused by iritation to the phrenic nerve.. (I think that is spelled right).. Straining your lungs on that tight smoke might be the cause...

No No No.
Hiccups while smoking are caused from daydreaming about suckling from Rosanna Arquette.

heh
Ever feel that tightness in your chest and you get the short gasps/swallows while smoking a strong stick? That is the Nicotene, and it can trigger the hiccups.
At least that is my theory (both of them)

Is that similar to farting while smoking...

Huh-huh, pull my finger?

Ewww...smells like a cigar fart!

Never got 'em smoking a cigar. But those "extreme, dangerous blah blah" hot salsas will trigger hiccups in me instantly. So will very very cold drinks, sometimes. That would line up with the irritation to that hooked on phonics nerve mentioned earlier.

I get hiccups if I smoke a cigar that is dry and have nothing to drink. I have noticed it with a variety of brands. I thought it was just me. A couple sips of water and they go away.

I thought I was the only one!

I get them pretty frequently when I smoke a couple in a row. Drinking something ususally helps eliminate them.

Now here is the weird thing...if I eat a jalapeno pepper (even jsut a little slice)...I get the hiccups BAD. Not if there is jalapeno mixed in, just if I eat it alone. What's up with that?
