I've dome some wood working in years past and want to try my hand at a humidor or 2 but I'm having a proble locating the cedar to line it. I've found it in very small peices but it cost an arm and a leg plus it's always too small.

Any one have an idea on getting it in reasonalble sizes and prices for veneers and solid boards.

Many times Ebay will have "resawn spanish cedar boards" (whatever the Hell that is) for a very reasonable price.

That is what I used in my coolidor (pics submitted last night).

They are decent boards but not defect free, uniform in dimensions, or smooth.

You could make a humidor out of them if you have a planner, sander, and alot of excess.

Check lumber yards in your area. If you have a Home Depot, they won't have it, but they may know who will. When my father-in-law built mine, we went and bought 1/2" thick "planks" that were 10 to 12 inches wide, and 8 to 12 feet long! He ripped everything with the radial and table saws to create the boards he needed. Very nice one of a kind unit. If you live in or near a city, there will be one of these lumber yards in your vacinity.

What is your location?

I live in a small town north of Tampa, Fla.... I found one lumber yard in Tampa that had some but the quality stank, it had sap all over the place & the price seemed high....his mahogany was cheaper. I'm gonna try some of the sites suggested but for good clear cedar I may have to take out a small loan.

A bit of caution: From what I've read, Spanish cedar dust can be quite toxic and cause some pretty serious upper respiratory problems. To be on the safe side you might want to be sure and use a mask when working with it.

^ arwings is right. Sense I craft humidors for a living, it can be a very toxic wood, mainly the dust particles. Always ware an OSHA approved breathing mask...Also Spanish Cedar has alot of pitch and sap, most can be rubbed out with a mixture of mineral sprits.
