On 12-23-2003 at 3:12 PST, I walked out of the Post Office, in Manhattan Beach and realized the “Rookie Box Pass was Officially over! It was kind of weird; this had been going on almost 4 and half months! And now it was done. This is a little history how a rookie was allowed to run his 1st box pass.

I had NEVER participated in a trade (I had gifted and been gifted but no “OFFICAL” trade’s
I had waited and waiting (I am still waiting) for Lowman’s Pass and then thought well maybe I can do one?!?!

On Cbid, the following appeared and we were off and running.

8-20-2003
Ok I am a rookie no doubt about it. But please someone tell me the rules of the box Pass. School has started so I have to go back to work and I’m sad about losing out on my cigars after volleyball on the beach time.
9-24-2003 was launched. Pass traveled (If by car) 12,975.6 miles. Which would take 202 hours and 19 minutes.

I also figured if I was going to start a box pass as a “Rookie”, I better make it as good as I could. So the “Special Little Box” was born. I never drank rum but a friend told me to try this when he gave me a cigar; so I did and well, if you ever stop by the chances are good I will be able to offer you some Rum Ron Matusalem. The idea was that I would “buy” each member a drink! It was to be a “pour yourself two finger worth” and have a drink on me. I think some of these guys have really FAT finger cause we launched SLB #2 J

Another idea that I wanted to do was send some smokes to the troops. I made it MY GOAL to match whatever the whole “Rookie Box Pass” group chipped in. So in the name of the member’s of the “Rookie Box Pass” we will launch over 200 smokes to our troops. I also got some Famous Amos Cookies, Cheese and crackers, Corn-nuts, and a local resturant donated about 200 wooden matches!

Not only did the 4 little people write cards and letters to the troops but
2 friends of mine that teach at Grandview Elmentary School, in Manhattan Beach, Calif. had their classes write letters that wil also be included.

The Troops box will be given to:

W.P.J Anderson
Major ID. 0791010302
BLT 3/3/3
1st Marine Division
he in turn is handing it off to

Capt. Clint Robins
1st Marine Regiment
P.O.Box 555401
Camp Pendleton, Calif 92055-5401

Maj Anderson wanted me to tell each member that he “Salutes all of you”!
No “Stars” will get this stuff, it is ticketed for the “grunts” only.

All In all I would say it seems to have gone pretty well. I got to make one personal phone call to keep 1 member from bailing out on me. I won’t mention any names..TINMAN!!!! This call lead to what I think is a great friendship. We also had a problem with ISOM, puts and takes, and this also lead to a wonderful trade and opened communications with another BOTL thank you again Hensed.

Gentleman I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I. If your in and around the LAX area, let me know I’ll have a smoke with you, my treat. And if it’s summer time ooo the beach is a great place to smoke and watch the sunset with a coldy after a day of volleyball.. ok, ok.. the women aren’t bad either in Manhattan Beach.

And well if we decide that next summer when it gets to the end and I have to go back to work that we need a “Rookie Box Pass #2 “ then I guess I’ll have to “buck up” and get it on. I hope you all will join me again and who knows what the SLB will contain J

P.S. there were 2 main rules.
#1 Be Fair

So I think Rule #1 was ok but it seems that Rule #2 “Nobody Goes Away Sad” was ALMOST violated due to a certain member NOT taking proper care of himself! So Santa has 1 late, late stop this year! Ho, Ho, Ho, look for it on Friday or Saturday!!!
Happy Holidays to you All and Thank You For Making The Rookie Pass a Sucessful One J

I am glad to hear that everything went well with your pass! As for the troops cigar I am glad that the Marines are not forgotten. Because we are stars in our own way from any other Military service. Not that I have any thing against any other service. My hats off to all of the Military that are over seas and I wish I was there with you. Orraahh!!

I need to add my .02 and declare what a pleasure it was to participate in such a well run pass. Rob your da man and a true BOTL. His call out to me failed to mention he reached out first with a gift of and ISOM when I had none.

Rob,
I have to throw my congrats in as well. You did a fantastic job with this pass.... know one would have known that it was your first! I'm still bummed that I didn't know you lived so close to Long Beach... the wife and I could have stopped by when we stayed on the Queen Mary back in September. Oh well.....
The very best to you and your family.... have a very happy and prosperous New Year,
