i have a large otter box, some equipment came shipped in, after reading some of the threads i thought it would make a great humidor.i went to the florist shop got one of those green blocks that hold water.cut the block in half it is about 2"x2"x 3" inches.soaked it with water, not dripping, put in in a small ashtray, but the humitidy is staying @ 80%. any thoughts.otter box is approx 7" tall x 14" deep x 20" wide.

One:Did you use a 50/50 solution or just distilled water?

Two: If you did just let is rest for a while... It can take a while to stabilize.

1) Throw out the oasis that is presently in there.
2) Resoak the other half (you still have) in a mixture of 50% Propylene Glycol and 50% "Distilled" water.
3) Your humidor will never go over 70% again.
4) If you want to keep your humidor around 65%, simply change the ratio of PG to Distilled water from 50/50 to 60/40.

Note:
You can find PG at your local pharmacy for around $8 / pint.

the Otterbox is airtight ... you need VERY little, if any, humidity in there ... those are not really a good alternative to a humidor ... better to move than florist foam to a "tupper" type container where it'll work well.
