Actually, this is a common misconception. As my friend crap_out was telling me, there is not a single rabbit in australia. They were apparently all eaten by dinosaurs in 1987. Meanwhile, this scholar informs me this is the rare Texas Rabbat. Yes, a hybrid rabbit and bat, it sleeps during the day, hanging upside down. Apparently it comes out at night and swoops down on unsuspecting carrots and people who wear too much fake tanning lotion and are mistaken for carrots.
