http://www.heatware.com  was created for this purpose, best of all it's free.

Some of the online tech hardware places use it. Just a thought, I was reading through a newbie trade thread and noticed where someone got burned.

If it's been posted before sorry for the repost.

i know it's been brought up and several running threads were kept and then died. I think it's a good idea

The nice thing about heatware is that it's already established and respected. Again just a thought.

I just went to the site and looked through the FAQ's section. And I am in support of this idea. Has anyone used it, and how does it handle different, well, handles? I think that, if I'm not mistaken, people can change their user name willynilly.

by e-mail adress I believe.

Essentially yes you could obtain a new adress and handle but then you'd have 0 trades. The idea is to reassure a tradee that you will come through on what you promise based on previous trades.

It does not mean that some sneaky thief can't get you especailly with newbie traders (like me) but it's a degree of reassurance (after you've gotten some feedback) if you're going to be doing bigger trades.

I've read a bit of the previous threads and people were opposed to the idea in part because it seems somewhat insulting to "review" a fellow brother. I understand and respect this position but I will say that most of us have nothing to fear and everything to gain from the use of some type of oversight for trading, and this is one of the more impartial ways to go about it.

I don't think its a good idea.... Thats just me though. If your here long enough you know who to trade with. And besides everybody I've delt with here has been very generous. I don't consider it getting burned. I didn't get a package once. Lost in the mail I guess. I wrote it off as a gift to him. He said he'd make good and he did. And the make up was a bomb! So in the end the Karma of the Leaf works its way around.

djheater,

Once you do a couple trades on this board you will realize that something like this is not necessary. Did you sign up for the Newbie thread? If not, you need to go and do that. I will do a trade with you, I may not have the best rep but I think you will be pleased. 🙂 Tell me what you are looking for and what you have to offer?

OMG! Ropeman reputaion....are you kidding me! This guy is a Legend! If I hadn't already been blessed with his fine smokes, I would reserve him every round of Newbie Trade. Get Him!!!!

Oh...and I agree that this would not be neccesary. I have been around only 2 1/2 months and I know who to trade with and who owns the smokes I like. It just takes a little reading, and e-mailing. I have made atleast 10 friends here without ever trading w/ them.....just chatting about cigars.

Plus, some trades wish to be kept to e-mail, cause of their contents, etc. Too many factors to consider, before making such a database of trade reactions.

Just my .02,

No, no, please don't misunderstand. I was only suggesting it becuase it is a common practice in other places, not becasue I necessarily think it is worthwhile or necessary here.

My father worked for himself for many years as a headhunter. When he was hired his fee was whatever they thought the employee, (or job) was worth. Seriously, I understand and respect the idea that generosity and "the trade" should NOT be based on expected return. Don't belabor a gift after all.

I'll let the suggestion stand but believe me I'm not basing my actions on what I perceive another's will be. That runs contrary to my nature.

I hope I've made myself clear. Often when I think I'm getting my pint across I'm told I've made no sense whatsoever. Let me know if that's the case.
