Tried my first Bolivar (Non ISOM) last night. It felt kind a spongy but I fired it up anyway. It tasted fine...pretty good in fact. However, the foot kept feeding me bits of tobacco and the burn was weird. I first thought I might have gotten it too wet. But I prodded at it some more and inspected the cut. There was a hollow tunnel that looked and felt like it went all the way up. I said to hell with it and opened it up. There was a filler leaf with a hardened vein and another one that looked grey. It was just very poorly constructed.

Hopefully, this is not the case with them as a brand. And as stated above, I really liked the taste.

No real loss though...had a Trilogy Cammie Robusto. Now that was good...but no review.

The fuerte's are favored but I've smoked many bolivars and never had the problems you described. I'd suggest giving another a try.

I have yet to have a bad Boli. And I smoke more Bolivars than anything else and one of the reasons, other than taste, is because the are so consistant. I also prefer the Fuerte's but have smoked others as well and I honestly cant remember ever having those types of issues with one.
