Well it sounds simple but its not. I'm looking to buy a nice cigar ashtray. I have a few ashtrays because my wife used to smoke cigarettes. But they just don't work right. They're all angled down and the foot ends up down in the ashes and I don't like that. Ok Probably sounds funny to most of you. I'm looking at getting the Take 5 deal... The one with the 5 AVO's and the nice ashtray. Anybody have this one and like it? Or do you all like the single ashtrays made of metal that kind of look like a lolipop. I'm just wondering what you all use. Or have found to work the best.

I have a marble single. It' great for one. I'm presently bidding on the Biarritz triangle triple closing 1/29. It looks to have enough support for decent sized cigars, but we'll see. If you don't outbid me, I'll review it after I receive it. {=^ )

Don't worry... I'm not bidding on anything for now. I like the look of the Biaritz one. I think they have that one at my local place for around 25 bucks. But I like the look of the AVO one.

Yo aj: I have two ashtrays that I use on a regular basis, one is "my lap" and the other is "my floor". However I do use a long marble cigar ashtray that I manage to put ashes in now and then. JonR

I've found some really great ashtrays on that other big auction site... no seriously. I got screwed out of a really nice 'party size' Bolivar ash tray, but I found one that works really really well for me (2 level 70's art deco ceramic, lower level for ash, top level for cigar rest)

I really dropped the ball a few years ago. I was at a flea market with my wife and was not real happy being there. But I did come upon a very interesting booth that had potter's mistakes. There were about 25 cigar ashtrays, all with a round or oval center and two long resting areas coming out across from another. All ceramic with a variety of glazes. I bought 3 of them for 6 bucks! They are designed perfectly for cigars. I should have bought the lot and given them or traded them here were they would be appreciated. Oh well. I like them better than the AF ashtray I bought in San Fran for $35.

I made two in college. One I sold to my art professor, a cigar smoker as well, and the other is in my livingroom on the coffee table. 14"x14" can hold 6 Toro sized cigars, and 8 cigarettes, at the same time. I use it daily. other than that, ashes usually roll across my belly, and into my lap, or onto the floor. LOL

homebrew: what did you make yours of?

only ashtray i have (besides a small cigarette ashtray) is this acrylic cigar "holder" dealie. it's shaped like half an egg, round side down and rests on a flat platform. there's a dip on either long side of the "eggy" part, and it's hollowed out. it's all one piece, acrylic, and serves as a place to rest a cigar and a place to ash it (though anything above a robusto will overflow it!). lol

i'd really like to get a real cigar ashtray, but they're just so danged expensive! 😛

Sorta depends on what you what to go with. I don't find the single-cigar ashtrays particularly practical. I have a four-cigar aluminum ashtray that is my favorite. You can also get them in the six-cigar version. I like'um because if I drop it, which I'm likely to do, it won't break. Like the Baritz triangular job, but usually goes for much too much here (bought two for $3.95 each, plus shipping). The four-cigar aluminum goes for $14.95 and I believe the six-cigar goes for $24.95. Got the Avo "take five" sampler and ashtray for $29.95 on that "other" auction site. It's only two-cigar but the Avos that come with it were great. I've found, as a general rule, you can get your ashtrays much less expensively by shopping around and buying outright, rather than by auction. Just my thoughts...............

BTW, I also have two of the Club Maduro smokeless ashtrays that have a battery operated fan in them to suck the smoke through a filter. They're just OK IMO, but I lucked out on auction here and got them for $2.00 each, plus shipping (quickies on a Sunday afternoon).

I bought one here. The ones that I really like are the milk glass(I dunno maybe they're plates, maybe they're bowls...I dunno???)thing-a-ma-bobs that I bought at a garage sale a couple years ago. Our sub had this huge "Sell all your crap" day, and I knew this one guy was gonna have some musical stuff out, well some dealer got to all his good stuff, but when I saw those thing-a-ma-bobs...I knew they'd make good ashtrays.

The best part of the story comes right before we left Michigan to move to Florida we had this huge BBQ and my neighbor brings his family...the night gets long and the crowd thins out and we're out back swimming when his wife walks out and sees we've been using her "heirlooms" for ashtrays! I thought she was gonna cry. I told her it was only stuff, ya know being the "softie" that I am. That's when it hit me...One man's trash is another man's treasure. Go figure. Women, can't live with 'em...can't drop 'em off at the corner when you're through!

hmm... got me thinking now that i'd like to make my own ashtray, but wood would have to be what it's made of. any ideas of a wood that might make a good cigar ashtray? as i don't "stub out" my cigars, i could just set it on a holder and let it fade. and i keep an eye on things while i smoke, so i don't think it would ever catch fire or anything -- esp. if i can find some kind of metal to line it with and use as a holder. just thinking out loud so to speak, but any ideas?

I got the avo take 5 sampler here and paid less (including shipping)than retail. The ash tray works well for me because i'm ussally the only one smoking. It looks nice and does the job. You can't beat this deal because the 5 avo cigars you get, are fantastic in there own right. Do your research and make sure you don't bid to much.
